If I were the photographer I would have put him right in the middle in the front and have the other kids form a gap.

My first thought as well.

I used to take classroom photos and that's exactly what I would have done too.

Or slide the kids over to the right side of the benches/platform they were on to close the gap, either one would've worked.

I know some people will always look at situations like this and find offense where likely none was ever intended. I can't imagine a school photographer intentionally creating a situation where one child is singled out or set apart. I'd bet the photographer didn't intentionally do this or know it would've created hard feelings in the mother.

No reasonable human being would do such a thing and I'm willing to give the photographer the benefit of the doubt.

Bingo! This stupid example of a teacher—pains me to see the little guy off and away.

Yeah. There’s no reason the kid couldn’t have been in the front with the other kids gapped around him.

IF you are a photographer, you would know that wouldn’t work.

1. it’s common practice to put wheelchairs on the side.
2. putting the chair in front would require the photog to reset his camera and lighting (not going to happen)
3. the “gap” would need to be about 5 people wide. this would cause more whining and crying about the pic, as the mother would complain of her child being singled out. (been there, here’s my t-shirt)
