In 1959 Tom Mboya discussed with President John Kennedy how they might raise funds for Kenyan students to study in the USA. Funds for the purpose were made available in 1960. The first airlift of 83 students arrived at Idelwild airport in September 1959. The students on board were selected by Mboya, the selection process was apparently very stringent, any slightest misdemeanor or criminal records elminated a candidate from selection. The fares were paid by Jackie Robinson and friends, that arrival list shows that the elder Barack Hussein Obama was NOT amongst the first arrivals. The first arrivals were met by CORA WEISS and Malcom X. Cora Weiss held the purse-stings of the association, the records are in her private collection held at Stanford. Barack Hussein Obama (Onyango) was already in Hawaii and had been interviewed one month PRIOR to the arrival of the students at Idelwild...he arrived in Hawaii in AUGUST. The fare for his journey plus some funds for living expenses were supplied by Elizabeth Mooney-Kirk and the LAUBACH LITERARY society. Barack Hussein Obama (Onyango) did at a later time receive some funds through the AASF, but that connection was established after Elizabeth Mooney-Kirk married and could no longer contribute to his living expenses. Any connection to Mboya or the airlift appears to be a myth.
Mr. Nerks, does anyone that you know of have in possession a 1973 Federal Tax return for Lolo and Stanley Ann Soetoro that could possibly show who they listed in the dependent section? What was listed that I have seen here is a 1973 State Of Hawaii Tax Return for Lolo and Ann. Thanks.
