A Melbourne priest claims the extra strain placed on Pope Benedict from dealing with widespread sexual abuse within the Catholic Church may have been a factor in his resignation.
Father Max Vodola said the elderly Pope's shock exit from the role may be because he is too physically and emotionally weak to deal with the decades-old problem.
It comes as Archbishop Denis Hart leads Victorian tributes to the Pope, who he describes as gentle and loving.

These are not comparable cases. I guess I should have been more specific for the ignorant. For example, Pope Pontian, resigned because he thought his absence would be bad for the Church. His decision was a disaster, which lead to a schism. Pope John Paul II was in far worse health, but never abandoned his vocation.

The Pope’s resignation has nothing to do with the priest pedophile cases. The Left hates Benedict because he won’t write an encyclical praising the virtues of homosexuality and abortion. The media keeps bringing it up (the pedophile cases) especially during Lent. Then the low information people think that there’s tons of new cases coming up and the Church isn’t doing anything about it. This will never go away, no matter how proactive the Church is and as long as you have low information Catholic haters. Hey, it worked for the soviets. They suppressed the Church but they never got rid of it.

No it is not unprecedented. Pope’s have resigned as you know. I frankly find it refreshing that he steps down as he finds himself deteriorating and unable to perform at an acceptable level. He is 85 years old and not in great health.
It is painfully obvious you'd like nothing better than to have the One True Church to fall on its sword, to satisfy your vanity (cf. defending the Church vs. "defending pedophiles")
