New York and New Jersey ordered the evacuation of nursing homes and low-lying coastal areas already devastated by deadly Superstorm Sandy as a smaller but still powerful Nor'easter approached from the Atlantic Ocean. New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg closed parks and beaches and temporarily halted outdoor construction ahead of the storm, which was pelting the Washington area with ice pellets on Wednesday and whipping up seas as high as 7.5 feet about 20 miles off New York's JFK airport, AccuWeather reported.

Christie sure made it all about politics....
Looks like christie will have to kiss his new best buddies butt some more.
After seeing the SRM laughing and smiling last night, I feel the same way. They can give all their money to fix the NE with their dollars.
please enough!!!! DO not retaliate with the same nonsense that you find appaling, sheesh! Today is a bad day for conservatives and republicans. sheesh.
Staten island is a picture into what Amerika will look like in the next major terrorist attack. gnashing of teeth while they call out for help. His response will be the same.
no one came in bengazi no one came to NY.
we are totally on our own now. And I mean TOTALLY.
Amen.
These comments are simply referring to the political leadership of those States, not the Innocent victims.
This nation was formed under Biblical principals and has rejected them.
Your choice.
Too bad you sold your soul.
You have you lost your mind?
Because they got out of Sodom!
Not feeling too chartatable either. Many are not communists but those that are get to enjoy the millions in charity by the conservatives who step ip to help. Then they demonize and mock us.
Nj ny chicago detroit new orleand all vote in the most power hungry corrupt godless men. i will help my own first. i suspect there wont be much left over.
Please do not do this, please. We are all worn out, angry and upset. I get it.
I did not want to make this about me and in truth it is not. Many have this experience: My best friend on this earth died from pancreatic cancer. The last 8 days of her life were spent in a drug induced coma, as the pain was killing her. She was 36. Please do not go where you went.
Please.
MOgirl
LOL, okey dokey.
Screw NYC and NJ.
Since they elected this president for us, I hope incurable cholera breaks out and millions die.
On the contrary, I’ve read enough over the last week about the callous attitude towards the survivors of Sandy. There is no distinction in some people’s minds between the innocent victims and the political leadership.
For that matter, in their minds, there are no innocent victims. Even those conservatives who live there are not considered *innocent victims*. They are guilty by default for the simple sin of living where they live.
Those living in blue states themselves that went to obama have no legitimate business pointing fingers at others who live in blue states.
The callous attitude of conservatives towards others in the midst of their suffering, liberal or conservative, is worthy of what I read at DU. Liberals are not the enemy. Many of them are misguided, deceived individuals who I feel sorry for because they don’t get it.
They are our neighbors, just like the Samaritan in Jesus’ parable.
And even if they weren’t our neighbor but rather our enemy, and we don’t like where their politics got us, we are not off the hook for praying for them and showing them love.
A person cannot selectively harden their hearts. Once the wall goes up, it affects EVERY relationship. People who harden their hearts like that are only hurting themselves, making themselves somewhat less than human. It’s taking out of themselves what it is that distinguishes a human being from an animal that eats its young.
I kind of doubt that Jesus checked out a person’s political affiliation before feeding the 5,000 or healing the sick.
Sad really.
What you are seeing now on FR is simply a reaction to the Blue States who expect to be bailed out by the Red States for their own free spending ways.
The Gov. of NY wants the national taxpayers to pick up the tab for all of the disaster relief in the State.
That is why there is such a reaction to the legitimate suffering going on.
Most of my family lives in Con. so I know what they are going through.
People deserve what their actions result in. Since no one did anything to cause the hurricane, I'd have to agree that no one deserved the hurricane. It wasn't God's punishment. It was a random act of nature that fell at random on one part of the country.
However, that being said the repeated re-election of corrupt and incompetent democratic officials and the tolerance of union everything in NY and NJ has led to a poor recovery effort. Specifically power outages that have extended more than a week with no end in sight for some are the direct result of the unions' turning away help. Who is responsible for letting the union thugs turn away the Alabama Power linemen who left their families and drove 1000 miles to help people? Lard boy Christie(R), 0bama's new best friend, sure didn't speak up and have the union thugs arrested. SO people of NJ who elected a corrupt and incompetent government are responsible for their own troubles in part.
The gas shortages in NJ are the direct result of laws that prohibit gas refined elsewhere from being sold at retail in NJ, AND the extended power outages. These things are a consequence of who was elected over the years, and the people of NJ did the electing. SO while I sympathize somewhat with those hardworking individuals in NY and NJ who are suffering from the aftermath of the storm, I can't get too worked up because they brought at least some of the consequences on themselves.
The people for whom I have absolutely NO sympathy at all are the public housing parasites who are in the dark. NY Post a couple of days ago had a quote from a public housing resident, one "frustrated Ralph Felts" who said about a flooded basement in his project, "When is somone going to do something about this." Lazy a$$hole. They expect their fellow citizens to provide them everything and complain when they don't get first service. SO while I don't wish evil on NY and NJ residents, actions have consequences and electing liberal corrupt union sucking governments is in part responsible for the length of time it's taking to get everything restored to at least a minimum of functionality.
Sometimes the best way to illustrate someone’s absurdity is to be absurd.
