I’ll type just as slowly, just for your benefit...based on the video, on what we’ve seen, the police officer overreacted and struck a woman in the face, causing her to bleed, and then arrested her. It’s plain to most reasonable people that he could have arrested her without striking her.

Depends on the nature of the crowd.

If it's a typical militant irresponsible OWS bunch of criminal losers, then yeah.

If YOU are the target, you can assume it's harmless silly string; your choice.
An LEO on the job? Not so readily. In a crowd that experience has shown there are mostly criminals, I give totally the benefit of the doubt to the cops.

The cop also knew he was in public, in plain view for dozens of witnesses to see. I’d have to think that what he did was for a valid reason.

Pigs are those police officers who circumvent the law and act as judge and jury by meting out immediate punishment on citizens. Sounds to me that you support pigs. I support police officers. This idiot is lucky that the crowd didn’t turn against them.

This video doesn’t show enough of the pre-action to come to a definite conclusion, but the woman does appear to be holding a can-like object in her hand and her and the cop’s movement seem to suggest that he was pursuing her before the video started.

Now, whether or not anything justified him slugging her is still open to debate, but it does appear she may have been more than just an innocent bystander with regards to the silly string.
