Mormons believe in many things that are antithetical to our Christian belief - all the while maintaining that they themselves are the "super Christian" (and yes I can provide a quote by an LDS Freeper who said exactly that)
If we left their version of God unchallenged, if we left their ideas of heaven unchallenged, it would signal our acceptance. Thomas Jefferson obviously thought it important that free argument of our beliefs not be impinged. JimRob is allowing argument to maintain our opinion of OUR religion on his site in a truly Jeffersonian spirit. Those of you who wish to deny us that right should ask themselves why and to what ends.
To our Christian beliefs or just to yours? IMO, most if not all religions and sects claim superiority over others if they didnt, then why and how could they hold to their beliefs or claim they are right in their beliefs and even attempt to get anyone to convert? Personally, I dont care one wit if Mormons claim superiority in their religious beliefs any more than I care that Protestants or Catholics, Hindus, Buddhist, Jews, etc. even Mormons, Unitarians, Scientologist, Mennonites, Amish, Unitariarians, Agnostics and Atheists do the same. In the realm of the free market of ideas and the constitutionally protected Right of Freedom of Religion, it is up to each individual to choose their own belief system.
You and JR certainly do not speak for me and I seriously doubt you speak unilaterally for all Christians or for that matter, all conservatives or for that matter, all Freepers.
If Free Republic really wants to cast its self as primarily a religious site and not a political site, then so be it, but if that then is the case, and FR can and will define who and who is not religious and by that litmus test, who is and is not conservative, and by that definition as to who can post here; then fine, but then lets not for one minute claim that FR is the Premier Site for Conservative Activism as there are a good number of conservatives who do not fit your and JRs rather narrow definition of Conservatism based on solely on religion.

You really dont get it. Thomas Jefferson had no problem with anyone practicing or expressing their own personal religious or even their non-religious beliefs, but Jefferson also did not believe in any sort of religious litmus test for holding public office or that it had any place in political discourse or forcing by law, adherence to any free citizen, the prevailing religious belief.
I ask you what exactly is OUR and JRs official religion on FR? Can politically conservative Catholics, Mormons, Buddhists, Hindus, Agnostic or Atheists like me have a place here if we dont attend and subscribe to your and JRs church? Have we no voice?
What ends indeed CC. The only logical conclusion from some here would be censorship of religious speech - and we can see how well that has worked in american society. Not on JR's watch
Allow me to provide a quote or two from the original Hubris artist himself, Joseph Smith, re: where Mormons get that from...
Now...I don't have to go to some deep and dark obscure archive to find it. The Mormon church thought it was so important it to include it in their "best of" Joseph Smith quotes, it got inclusion in the 2007 book, Teachings of Presidents: Joseph Smith.
THERE IS A SUPER INTELLIGENCE bestowed upon such as obey the [Mormon version of the] Gospel with full purpose of heart, which, if sinned against, the apostate is left naked and destitute of the Spirit of God, and he is, in truth, nigh unto cursing, and his end is to be burned. (p. 321)
So there ya have it, Joseph Smith spouting off about Mormon "super intelligence" that if such a Mormon is sinned against, why an "apostate" must have done it, and God's Spirit will be withdrawn from such a person who will be cursed -- and burned -- in hell no doubt.
(Earlier in that same book (p. 219), Smith is going on and on how revelations to him are "records from the eternal world"...and then concludes that a given vision is "so much beyond the narrow-mindedness of men, that every HONEST man is constrained to exclaim, 'It came from God.'" ... Well, of course that means that if you happen to disagree with Joseph Smith, then Smith and the Mormon leadership presumes our very DIShonesty)
Elitims to its core...No wonder Elsie posts that "I'm superior" list by Mormons.
