Except for his unfortunate go along to get along support of TARP, bailouts, stimulus spending and the increased credit limit, etc, Ryan is a pretty good choice. Probably the best choice of the RINOS that were on Romney's short list. I support Ryan for the vice presidency. Wish he were at the top of the ticket, though.
But I still cannot and will not support the grand father of ObamaCare. Romney still loves and brags about his bastard brainchild, RomneyCare, even today when he knows what an anti-liberty socialist POS it is.
And the fact that he advocated that abortion should be safe and legal in America for over three decades of his adult lifetime and even advocated that Roe v Wade should be supported and sustained as settled law precludes any consideration whatsoever by this pro-life Christian for Myth Romney for the presidency.
And the fact that he boasted that he would be better for "gay rights" than Ted Kennedy, and proved it just increases my resistance.
That, and his penchant for gun control, his continuing support for global warming, gays in the scouts, gays in the military, and his record of appointing liberal judges makes it all but impossible for me to support him.
Lastly, we're having a bit of changeover on our moderator staff. At least two moderators resigned this afternoon after I flatly refused to rein in a so-called anti-Mormon "bigot" on FR. Well, if being in opposition to false prophets and false prophecy makes a Christian believer a bigot, then I guess I'm a bigot. I've posted before that I flat do not believe that the Book of Mormon is the true word of God. Nor do I believe that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God. The Christian bible warns us to be weary of false prophets and that I am. Romney being the presumptive Republican nominee does not change that fact.
Possibly because at the heart of many of the opuses is the belief that this place has become a cesspool of bigotry. As much as any of the anti-Romney crowd want to hide or obfuscate it, the key paragraph of the article that begins this thread is the last.
And, to avoid the name-calling charge, the definition of bigotry: “stubborn and complete intolerance of any creed, belief, or opinion that differs from one’s own.”

I’ll just hop out at the next corner.
Thanks for the ride.
Please continue searching for THE ultimate God -- and don't settle for a "god" who was a "man" who got the "god job" as appointed by an alleged "council of gods."
We as a nation need this Ultimate God if we're going to get thru the tough times ahead...We can't thumb our nose at him and pretend that people stealing glory from Him -- so-called Lds "gods-in-embryo" who deflect worship, prayer, etc. -- is somehow a "non-issue."
This Ultimate God has NEVER sanctioned idolatry, and I don't anticipate any change in that (unlike the Lds "god" who changes His mind numerous times on monogamy vs. polygamy, skin color as acceptable for the priesthood, etc.)
I actually think MOST Mormons have no intention of becoming grown-up "gods"; 'cause, when you look @ temple recommend rates, only 15-20% of current Lds have one. (And only "temple Mormons" can become full-grown "gods" per your leaders)
We've had a few interesting discussions thru the years. I appreciate the time you took to dialogue.
If by bigotry you mean some purported anti Mormon bias... that’s another whole hot button topic which has the potential to blind. We would do well to try to understand what effect that Mitt’s Mormon participation has upon him. At the same time we should look honestly at indicators. The choice of the outspokenly Roman Catholic Ryan seems to say that the official Mormon tenets (which have some very unpretty things to say about all mainstream Christian denominations) aren’t foremost in Mitt’s mind. That he’s another wheeler and dealer, and he’s willing to deal cards to those he has disagreed with in the past. To me it’s almost infinitely preferable to get a wheeling, dealing waffler than a demonic doctrinaire.
Where would that mindset ever end, boundary-wise?
Would you vie for a place @ Hitler's table when he first came into power?
I believe that obama is the single most dangerous person to be in the WH in my lifetime and I want him gone. I knew that from the beginning and even broke my personal vow to NEVER vote for McShame again to keep obama out. And here we are all over again, SSDE (Same Shite, Different Election).
It's too bad the only compelling reason to vote for Romney is for what he isn't (he isn't exactly like obama) rather than for what he is. This is the GOPe and why I no long am a member of that party.
Romney has the potential to be one of the nation's great leaders, as all presidents do, but after decades of the GOPe's Progressive-lite policies and antagonism toward its conservative side, I am having trouble seeing that potential being realized.
Instead, I see the GOPe repairing much of the damage obama has done to the economy, while building an even bigger, more powerful Federal GovCo Beast.
And then, the cycle repeats when the demonrats once again regain power and once again use the now repaired and improved, bigger and better Fed against us, as they ALWAYS do.
They get you coming and going...and since we voted for it, we own it.
If hindsight is 20/20, then it looks like we're doing this wrong, repeating the same things over and over again expecting a different result.
That's kinda crazy, especially the arguing for it part. Looks like we're being played.
That's just what I was thinking, ROTFL!
One issue idiocy,so who will you vote for?
(Yeah, we "know" ... opposition = "hate"...I begin to wonder if certain posters grew up in homes where conflict was a given...and they began to associate ANY tension with "hate"...)
To be consistent, then...opposition to the Democrats' agenda = "hate" vs. your relatives, co-workers, neighbors, and recreational team members who happen to be registered Democrats...
To be consistent, then...opposition to the homosexual marriage agenda = "hate" vs. homosexuals.
Discernment is needed. Start distinguishing 'tween the "ISM" -- the "system" or "agenda" of what people believe - vs. the people themselves.
Otherwise, be quiet about ever critiquing the homosexual agenda & Democrat agenda again.
Because I'll guarantee you the "hate" message is one that's been coming from the homosexual activists and the liberals...because they see any frowning at all on their lifestyle or agenda as a "hate" issue tied to their very identity.
Bottom line: God may often oppose our life agenda; that doesn't stop him from loving us.
God loves Mormons, Mitt Romney, Obama, Democrats, and homosexuals. But He also loves them all enough He doesn't want them to remain in the same place they are in spiritually.
“300 million Americans to chose from and the GOP runs some wealthy liberal insider from Massachusetts?”
This kind of thing always cracks me up.
wha—what?
If anything, Jim has historically soft pedaled the Mormon issues. Even when folks (like moi) brought it up. This is the strongest thing Jim has said yet — about being wary (I think that weary is a typo) of false prophets. Jim and I would cheerfully agree that Mormonism is spiritually bogus, even if disagreeing on other matters.
Mitt’s practical politics are a very valid question. In the past they have stunk to high heaven from the state that presumptuously puts on its car license plates, “The Spirit Of America.” (Does that spirit include fisting?) Anyhow, Barack Obama is to thank for the fact that we are even talking about whether to give Mitt the time of day. A more competent Democrat challenger would raise the need for a more competent GOP challenger.
More like too many ordinarily sane people now standing in the corner sucking their thumbs because they didn’t get their way.
There is absolutely nothing worse than trying to place yourself as equal to God. Don't you get it?
Exactly. We can only take one step at a time.
This is a good pick by Romney plain and simple. No sense crying about the primaries, they are over and conservatives lost.
We are where we are because of many people's faults the only thing we can do is start to turn the ship around in the right directions and set sail for better waters and bettering our predicament.
Jim, I love your site and while I respect your decision to vote or not vote for whoever you wish, I believe we are fortunate you will be voting in a state that is already lost.
Which group? Because getting our way in November is more important than anything that happens here.
Well I came across one neverMitt who confessed that part of the reason for neverMitting was to spite what the neverMitter called mittbotting. Hardly more mature than what you allege is happening.
The Hebrew term for gods, “eilim,” which also means mighty ones, has some contextual uses to indicate entities that are not literally God. Angels are among them, as are people in certain roles. I believe Mormons have taken this way beyond the intended meaning but that’s neither here nor there.
