By your own choice, and your own actions, you have already shown God that you find His presence intolerable.
Ergo, you go where there is no God.
That's free will. You get to choose; and you get to experience the consequences of your choice.
Pretty simple, actually.
That is an excellent response. Too often people get caught up talking about the mercy of God and forget the holiness - justice - of God.
