Occupy Phoenix: Banks Are Evil, Government's Evil, and Jan Brewer's a "Lying Whore" With Alzheimer's

"Legalize Marijuana. Gov. Brewer Has Alzheimers (sic). Lying Whore."

That's what was written on the protest sign that welcomed us to the "Occupy Phoenix" demonstration in downtown Phoenix this afternoon -- and at least that sign was spelled correctly (almost).

There were hippies, teachers, communists, anarchists, stoners, militant black guys, people dressed as cows, people dressed as cops, people with guns, and they all have one thing in common: they're mad as hell and they're not gonna take it anymore.

What Phoenix's occupiers are mad about varies, depending on who you ask.

According to Darren Lansing, who was interviewed while shirtless and blowing bubbles, his gripe's with the politicians.

"[We've got to] get the money out of the hands of the politicians and back to the public," he tells New Times.

When asked how he plans to do it, Lansing says "we're doing it right now, man."

Apparently, blowing bubbles is the key to redistributing wealth. Who knew?

On the steps of the old Phoenix City Hall, on the east end of Cesar Chavaz Plaza, speakers screeched through a P.A. system to the 1,000-plus crowd, and at one point, protested corporate greed by asking the crowd to show off their best "jazz hands," which they did.

With everyone pissed off at someone or some thing, the overall theme of the demonstration was the following: money -- someone's got it, and the occupiers want it....

You know this country is in big trouble when EVERYBODY is pissed off but they don’t know why.

Occupy Arkansas kicked off in Little Rock today. This thread details their intimate work with the democrat party. Communism is the goal for this group.

Ah, Phoenix. Where even liberals and the homeless have guns.

http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/1999-04-01/news/give-piece-a-chance/

“Manny Marco, unemployed vagabond, tenderly loaded the last of 30 9-millimeter bullets into the spring-action, extended clip for his new Mac-10—a semiautomatic assault weapon capable of throwing rounds as fast as Marco can blink.

“That’s very good, Manny,” coaxed Arm the Homeless firearms instructor Pete Whippit. “Now, insert the clip and rack that lever there.” Marco did so, producing the wicked, unmistakable chik-chik of a freshly loaded weapon.

“Okay, Manny,” Whippit continued, pointing to a switch. “Now, all you need to do is flick this thing here from ‘Safe’ to ‘Fire,’ and you are cocked, locked and ready to rock.”

(Yes, it was an April Fools’ article. However, in retrospect, 1/3rd of their readers believed it and were horrified, 1/3rd didn’t believe it, and 1/3rd maybe believed it, and thought it was a good idea to give free guns and ammo to the homeless, in that they are still citizens, and definitely need the right to defend themselves.)

Protests in Phoenix are unlike protests anywhere else.

First of all, it is too damned hot to protest like they do elsewhere.

Second, Phoenix is on the northern edge of the Sonora desert. Weird and bizarre things have been happening in the Sonora for well over a thousand years, and many of them are supernatural and tend to make people a little strange. Fortunately, not as strange as in Tucson.

Third, while Arizona has more Indians than blacks, which is not that many of either, relatively speaking, the only real riot Phoenix ever had was during WWII, when blacks thought that a disproportionately high number of them were being drafted. In response, the governor called out the National Guard, which sprayed the asphalt in front of the rioters with 30 caliber machine gun fire, blowing big chunks of high speed asphalt at them. Riot over, and the only mention of it was in a one paragraph “civil disturbance” story in The Phoenix Gazette, on about page 40. (The reporter who covered it did a full write up that was only published in the 1970s.)

Fourth, did I mention that it was too damned hot?
