Uh... his citizenship IS the issue. There are two kinds of citizens: Natural born, and naturalized. The former is a citizen by virtue of their birth and the latter is granted citizenship later in life. If Obama was born in Hawaii in 1961 he’s a natural born citizen, according to 8 USC 1401.

The definition of natural born citizen per the intent of the US Constitution is the issue, it appears there was a higher standard implied.

No, there isn't. The whole purpose of that clause in the Constitution in the first place was, after the then recent revolution, to prevent the King of England from sending British subjects over to run for President, thereby undoing the revolution by virtue of the ballot box. So... they limited the eligibility for President to people who were a.) already in the colonies by the time of ratification of the Constitution, or b.) people born in the new nation after ratification.
