Yeah, and the native guard were so reviled and rejected by their “countrymen” that they jumped at the chance to join the USA forces after the Union occupation of New Orleans.
I've read that only about 20% of those in the Confederate Native Guards joined the Union forces. Of course, bunches of those who joined the Union army later resigned. I guess they didn't like their new Northern masters and how they were treated. See: Link.
