Another possibility is that to Polarik, this is just an intellectual exercise in how people come to absorb information and what they believe to be true based on their preconceptions and desires. And in this experiment, FR is just a big Skinner box to him and Freepers are just a bunch of rats to be rewarded or punished as the experimenter sees fit.

I had actually considered that based on some rather extensive research into statements he made on other forums having nothing to do with THIS subject. That is a totally plausible explanation.
Everything is possible, but the facts (empirical data, to some people) certainly suggests that the screwing is for-profit. You can chat with the self-appointed expert on personal needs for $2 a minute.
On the other hand, it's all so stupidly done - including the skinnerboxing - that it also indicates a twilighted loon.
