It disturbs me a bit because it almost makes ‘disagreeing’ about something automatically make you a troll. No matter how long you’ve been here.
I could see it having an inhibiting effect on people.
The n00bies who have shown up here
on this subject are anything but inhibited.
And, they have exemplary and very worthy
adversaries ... ;)

Today is the 65-year anniversary of the Battle of Iwo Jima. Of the 22,786 Japanese soldiers entrenched on the island, 21,570 died either from fighting or by ritual suicide. Many Japanese “popped” out of foxholes, even near the last day of the month-long battle, to kill as many Americans as possible before they themselves were dispatched.
Although NOT the last Japanese holdout, Shōichi Yokoi emerged from his hidden retreat on Guam in January 1972. Two shrimp trap fishermen saw Yokoi. Thinking he was a poacher from nearby village, the two fishermen managed to surprise and subdue Yokoi, carrying him out of the jungle to later reintroduce him to the modern world. (I actually went down inside Yokoi's hole in the jungle floor in 2001 when I was stationed on Guam).
Sorry, that IS a subjective call, based upon the content of their postings (just as one is judged upon the content of their character). This is often attributed to noobies, but occasionally it includes people who have been a member of FR for years, lying in the trenches, and disguising themselves as a FRiend. |
