The newspaper will prove it was switched but it will never prove who did it.

No, it won't prove anything of the kind if the switch was made in between the time that the papers were laid out ready to be printed, and the time they actually went to print.

what????? Where did factcheck get that announcement? From microfiche? Or did they make it up? If a real hard copy of the paper shows Klondyke, that’s it. No way would FMD have has any reason to remove Obama and enter Klondyke.

I have first-hand knowledge of newspaper production from that era, including hours in the backshop.

In 1961, newspapers were still universally using hot type, not offset printing. Technology has changed. There is absolutely no way that lead type could have been switched between composition and printing. You’d have to have many people involved in the complicity, including the linotype operator.

After the switch to offset, with computer-printed type and paste-ups, it would be easy to do such a switch, but not in 1961.
