Republic doesn’t bother me. Obviously it was a term that Kenyan’s had discussed and decided upon before Independence was declared.
Kenya was admitted to the UN on 12/16/1963. My guess that term republic was used for Kenya by other member states of the UN.
The Dec 1964 is purely administrative. Kenya was a separate and distinct country as of 12/16/1963 or else they would not have been admitted to the UN.

How many people were born in Kenya in the year before 12/12/64? Gotta be a lot. Shouldn’t be hard to rustle up a few comparable docs.
