The passport you posted is a from independent Kenya, not UK Kenya Colony and Protectorate so it was later than April 1964.
The UK Kenya Colony passport that Lucas Smith posted shows a renewal in April 1964 good through April 1969, and the INS FOIA documents make note of the renewal of that passport through 1969.
My guess would be that the independent Kenya passport you posted was an April 1969 renewal at the earliest.
BTW, on the age 25 vs. age 27 issue in 1961, Barry received a lot of publicity in Kenya in 2004 when he was elected senator and over the next four years and I expect that there might be an article about his Kenyan father with his birth date or age in the Kenyan press.
And I cannot see what any of that has to do with him changing his birth year from the orginal passport to the renewal. The Kenya Press isn't going to be any wiser either, are they? They will have seen the same documents we have.
Frankly, I don't personally care what age he said he was, I just want to know WHEN he decided it was to his benefit to change his birth year, but there's no evident pattern.
He wasn't selected to be part of the airlift because he had been arrested albeit for political reasons, he was noted by the colonial administration as presenting a potential problem, he would have found it difficult to find a sponsor, so there's something odd behind his need to change his year of birth.
And the fact he had a brother two years older with whom he attended school at Maseno, makes an interesting possibilty, which brother actually came to Hawaii? The one who was born in 1934, named Yusuf, or the one born in 1936, named Barack?
Don't answer that, you'll do yourself an injury.
