Then the Alzheimer’s hit and her better qualities were more blunted while the prickly irrationality was still as strong as ever.

I've seen that happen in two cases personally. One, had/has Alzheimer's and one as the result of a stroke. I wonder why our worse side comes out after a brain injury.

when the brain areas involving higher function screening of emotional expression are compromised or dead . . .

THEN WHATEVER IS IN THE HEART—THE CORE VALUES AND EMOTIONS—EVEN SIGNIFICANT PARTS OF THEM

COME FLOODING OUT.

I recall the story of a couple of men at a nursing home . . .

Both supposedly devout Christians. I think one had been a pastor or missionary.

One when he had a stroke, would rant cursing up a blue streak.

However, the other, also a similar stroke, would also rant in tone etc. but his words were different:

Instead of “OH DAMN!”

It was “OH! AMAZING GRACE!” as an epithet.

LOL.

Certainly out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth exposes!
