They will tell you the Civil War was not about slavery. Remind them that the president and vice president of the so-called "Confederate States of America" both said it was. They will tell you that great-great grandpa Zeke fought for the South, and he never owned any slaves. Remind them that it is political leaders - not grunts - who decide whether and why a war is waged. They will tell you the flag just celebrates heritage. Remind them that "heritage" is not a synonym for "good." After all, Nazis have a heritage, too.

No, only those who have published deserve to be taken seriously as historians. You’ve used only your unpublished work as a source and you’re not published. Real historians don’t start out trying to prove a point and then cherry pick one or two quotes to prove that point. You’d describe the totality of the event. If your work had been subjected to peer review, if you were an actual historian, instead of pretending to be one on the internet, you would have learned that.
As has been said to you by many people here, you can write all you want but at this point you’re just some guy on the internet. Why don’t you spend your time trying to get published in a real journal instead of spending it here? Even if you were to convince me of anything, so what? Ya’ gonna’ put that on your CV?
Besides, students are smoking in the bathroom and you need to go bust them.
Because it's so much fun tweaking with whiny southron types like A20 and egotistical boobs like you?
Now who’s the loser? You’re obviously the teacher who’s the butt of all the practical jokes at school and you can’t figure out why. So you head on over to the internet.
And....you’re still not published.
Only a rewriting of history can make it a war about slavery otherwise it would have been a lot easier for the North to win.
the difference was that MOST of the northern slave-owners were hypocrites, who "damned" slavery while profiting FROM it.

had just one more CS infantry regiment been thrown at 20th ME, the WHOLE of the northern army would have folded up down that ridge-line, like a paper accordion.
according to the NPS docent at the museum, 20th ME had a TOTAL of 32 rounds left at the end of the battle;most of that was pistol ammunition.
so the charge wasn't a "foolhardy" tactic.

you need to look about a thousand miles farther west & about 4-5 years earlier.

otoh, N-S is the ONLY one of the DAMNyankee extremists on FR that has both a functioning brain & an education.
the rest of the members of "the DY coven" are just HATE-filled, sanctimonious,nitwits/bigots/antisemites/IDIOTS.

Well, I’ll believe what the good nuns taught me in history before I believe an un-reconstructed charter member of the Jeffy Davis fan club.
fwiw, i heard you on WMAL the other day & thougfht that you sounded better than the host.
have you considered joining the talk-staff of WMAL?? (you should.)

do us all a favor. turn off your computer & go do some research, such that you won't appear to be as ignorant as the members of "the DAMNyankee coven" on FR.
that crew gives new meaning to the term: "dumb & clueless".

Wrong. Longstreet had it right. If he had Lee’s job, the Confederacy would have had a better chance.
Wow, what bit your ass? How about a little civility?
Lee did not support abolition. It is an exaggeration to say he did, to put it charitably. “Myth” might be a more fitting word.
Pickett's Charge was the 3rd day. The 20th Maine's stand on Round Top was the second day. They were in reserve on the 3rd day and played no part.
“you dont think chattel slavery robbed people of their humanity? what about the slave trade? selling children in public markets?”
No, you see, its all a myth propogated by the Yankees. Actually, slaves paid good money so that they could buy themselves INTO slavery, they loved it so much. They were devastated when slavery was abolished. /s/
Damn stand! You’re just pissing everybody off today, aren’t you?
Apparently. Amusing, isn't it?
For that matter, it's not even clear that Lewin wrote the article you quoted, since it starts with the line, "This article is provided courtesy of our partner africaunlimited.com"
