i have no reason to believe that President Davis lied.
otoh, i have no reason to believe YOU.
it's no more complicated than you are NOT believed by most anyone here. (that's what happens when everyone decides that you're a SERIAL LIAR, who is a stranger to honor/decency/truth.)

Then you must believe that Davis was duped by a false letter, purporting to be from Boyle, which he put into his book
(scans of original text available here-see pages 498-500), and that he was also duped by another letter, from Lewis Schade, Wirz's attorney, which also mentions Boyle, and which Davis also reprints.

Here's Davis again, from an 1890 article in "Belford's Magazine" entitled
Andersonville and Other War-prisons", apparently published immediately after his death. It lacks page numbers, but the search engine lets you find this passage: "In answer to an inquiry addressed by me to the Reverend Father Boyle, I received the letter of which the following is a copy."
Davis goes on to reprint the entire letter from Boyle, and then follows it with "These witnesses were men of high quality and intelligence, of whom it could not be pretended that they were in any manner connection with the charges under consideration, or otherwise of doubtful credibility." What an idiot, huh? I mean, according to you, there wasn't even such a person as Father Boyle, and here's dumb ol' Jefferson Davis telling everyone what a high-quality witness he is. LOL!
