PHOENIX The mother of a 17-month-old boy found dead after he was left unattended inside a hot car for at least seven hours in a north Phoenix Hooters restaurant was arrested on one felony count of negligent homicide.
Police say the woman, Ashly Duchene, 22, left her son in her car when she arrived at the north Phoenix Hooters restaurant where she works at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. When she returned to the car after her shift at nearly 5 p.m., her son was dead.
Efforts to revive the boy by witnesses, officers and firefighters were unsuccessful. Police Sgt. Joel Tranter said temperatures hit nearly 90 degrees Tuesday, but that it would have been more than 100 degrees inside the car.
FOX 10 Phoenix reports the baby's mother had planned to drop the child off at childcare before heading to work at a restaurant near Bell Road and Interstate 17.
Instead, authorities say the mother went to work with the child still inside the car.

The baby was in a car seat in the backseat of a Honda Civic, which had very dark tinted windows. Officials believe that made him unnoticable to people going in and out of the restaurant and a car wash next door, the Republic reported.
It's unknown if the mother will face any charges in the child's death. Tranter said situations like this are handled "on a case-by-case basis."
So far, there have been no arrests.

I meant to ad, the same day the child died in Cincy, parents in another part of the country (both doctors if I remember correctly) also left their child in a vehicle. That child also died.
Sorrow? What’s your sorrow got to do with hooters?
Yes, but how many kids died of heat exhaustion strapped in car seats when said car seats were in the front seat with the parent?
If you bothered to read all of my other posts you would see what I am talking about.
Perhaps you got to my first post and was so sickened by my daughters temporary position you felt the overwhelming urge to judge her without knowing her.
Yet another example of compassion.
“Now, now, it has nothing to do with where she works. White collar families leave their kids in hot cars, too.”
In my youth, I was known to frequent places like strip clubs and Hooters. While the Hooters girls stayed clothed, there wasn’t much difference in the intellect department.
Now I ask you again, what’s hooters got to do with your sorrow? It’s a rhetorical question. We both know the answer is “nothing”. If you really expect me to feel guilty about your daughter working in hooters...thanks again for another laugh. I’m not that gullible. Maybe you are though.
As for your daughter, I pray for her child, and hope that the comfort of family strengthens her in this time of need.
No matter the circumstances, no matter the job she is doing now, she has shown that her child is what her life revolves around.
Don't let these others bother you.
What are you babbling about Pistolshot? nmh will be sitting at the right hand of the Lord telling Him how to run His Kingdom, and who to let in.
Don’t let these morons bother you. They aren’t half as intelligent or successful as they think they are and they definitely are weak on empathy.
God bless you and your family. Working at Hooters is not such a bad job. Those that are quick to judge it ..well...what can I say? Nothing really needs to be said about them. I will pray for your daughter and her child. I say good for her. She is the example of a caring mother. Good for you for knowing that.
This woman left her child in a car, the child died, and she was charged with negligent homicide. That seems fitting and proper. How you decide she deliberately murdered her child escapes me. How you extrapolate that into feeling superior to her because she was a waitress is beyond me. So many people on this thread have pointed out what an arrogant, mean-spirited person you are, and you remain clueless. I would not stoop to wishing you could have an experience that makes you taste your own bile, but I repeat, Jesus would not be proud of you.
And you have proof this is true in this case?
No doubt you’re right about the intellectual desert to be found in strip clubs and Hooters. My only point is that being a Hooters girl or stripper doesn’t seem to make one any more prone to leave their child to die in a hot car.
I’m not as hard on the strippers and Hooters type girls as some people here have been. I think there’s worse things to do for a living than work at Hooters, and as for strippers and prostitutes—I feel sorry for them more than anything.
You’re a horrible person, and so stupid you don’t even know it. Nobody asked you to feel “sorry” for anybody, but if you can’t come up with those feelings on your own, you’re not a human being.
And a registered Democrat, as the picture shows.
“That means after a few drinks, the guys think the pretty young sweet things actually like them, only, all they want is their money.”
I don’t agree. I think most guys enjoy the scenery and even the flirtation, but they sure as heck don’t think these women are going home with them.
Even at “more reputable” restaurants, women who flirt (and give good service) get better tips. This includes waitresses who might not be considered so good looking. Your average waitress knows this.
I dunno. Anyone who can successfully manage a McDonald’s restaurant for any length of time and keep their sanity has got more going on than I have.
As for Hooters, I wouldn’t want to work there because I have managed to get to my age without ever having worked in a restaurant, but I sure wish I had the body to ‘qualify’ me to work there.
My 70+ year old mother ate at a Hooters once, with perfect aplomb. Of course, she was a public health nurse for many years, so when it comes to boobs and butts, believe me, she has seen it ALL.
