PHOENIX — The mother of a 17-month-old boy found dead after he was left unattended inside a hot car for at least seven hours in a north Phoenix Hooters restaurant was arrested on one felony count of negligent homicide.
Police say the woman, Ashly Duchene, 22, left her son in her car when she arrived at the north Phoenix Hooters restaurant where she works at about 10 a.m. Tuesday. When she returned to the car after her shift at nearly 5 p.m., her son was dead.
Efforts to revive the boy by witnesses, officers and firefighters were unsuccessful. Police Sgt. Joel Tranter said temperatures hit nearly 90 degrees Tuesday, but that it would have been more than 100 degrees inside the car.
FOX 10 Phoenix reports the baby's mother had planned to drop the child off at childcare before heading to work at a restaurant near Bell Road and Interstate 17.
Instead, authorities say the mother went to work with the child still inside the car.

The baby was in a car seat in the backseat of a Honda Civic, which had very dark tinted windows. Officials believe that made him unnoticable to people going in and out of the restaurant and a car wash next door, the Republic reported.
It's unknown if the mother will face any charges in the child's death. Tranter said situations like this are handled "on a case-by-case basis."
So far, there have been no arrests.

How does being right (possibly) about the mother in Phoenix justify the ugliness in your heart and mind that you’ve shown us?
I dont have any problem with her working at Hooters. Shes working at least and not sitting home demanding entitlements.
I do have a problem with the priority she gave the child.
And now it turns out there was no priority given by her to the child. That is what I have a problem with.

I know we do not always agree with what our fellow freepers write. But your solution seems just a tad extreme.
Perhaps some of us have HIGHER VALUES and get disgusted at those with LOW or no existing values.
I always wonder how the pious, that applaud depravity live with themselves. You don’t need to answer. I won’t relate.
You don’t have higher values. You just value yourself higher than anything else. You need to look up the word pious and then look in the mirror.
Working for a living is wrong?
It sadness for people that sympathize with what Hooters is all about - crude, disrespectful guys that go to stare at boobs. No female deserves that. Yeah, I guess hard up guys have to go somewhere ... . it’s disgusting.
It’s not the daughter who is hiding a depraved heart behind the accusing finger. You would be amazed at what such people do and excuse it with a wave of the hand and a quote from the Bible. I’ve lived with it and it’s just breathtaking.
What does it mean when a single mom has a job at Hooters.
It means she decided not to have an abortion. It means she decided not to go on the public teat. It means she decided to work a job that offered her more time with her child. Those are decisions I admire and would not condemn.
You obviously have no ken what makes a woman a lady. You should keep in mind this Cervante’s quote:
“A lady is a woman who can make herself respected even among an army of soldiers.”
But by your standards a burkha wearing suicide bomber is more of lady because she at least is covered head to toe. Is probably married and only leaves the home to attend mosque.
I don't sympathize with that and have no interest in it. That is just your excuse for broad brushing women who work there with your own vile assessment of them.
I sympathize with young women who make good money for their own families and find themselves automatically guilty of anything and everything. They make good money off of the vanity of the customers but that's the customers choice and it's capitalism.
Your implied accusations against me fall flat and further shows your ugly view of people.

Don’t sweat it. I suspect jealousy is at work on some of these posts suggesting someone who works at Hooters is stupid. My guess is that someone who works at Hooters is attractive and wants to make good money for a few years while getting on with life.
I once had a job collecting sheep pee for a pharmaceutical company. That is a HECK of a lot lower than Hooters!
