DU Tactics at FreeRepublic
FreeRepublic | 4/3/07 | Reaganesque

Posted on 04/03/2007 7:24:18 PM PDT by Reaganesque

It is always disappointing to be reminded that there are people in the world who do not like you so much that they are willing to debase themselves and others in order to get their way. We, as conservatives face this from the Left on a day to day basis. But when such action comes from another supposed Conservative, that is truly disappointing.

The posters at DU think nothing of swearing and posting the most filthy, perverted and twisted things about their political rivals. We here at FR are, for the most part, better than that. At least we try to be. Unfortunately, there's always someone who proves that both sides have their ugly side.

I have posted a number of pro-Mitt Romney threads recently as have many others. I discovered this afternoon that several of them have been the victims of childish and down right purile dirty tricks. Now, political dirty tricks are nothing new and nor are they uncommon on either side of the aisle. But some simply cross the line of decency. Such is the case with whomever played their little game of messing with the Keywords on these Pro-Romney threads. Here are four examples:

Romney Tops Republicans in Fundraising
KEYWORDS: ANTICHRIST; CULT; FUNDRAISING; MITTRAPESCHILDREN; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Why I Think You Should Vote For My Dad
KEYWORDS: 2008; ELECTIONPRESIDENT; ELECTIONS; MITTBEATSHISKIDS; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; Click to Add Keyword

Parsing the Polls: Answering the Mormon Question

KEYWORDS: CULT; JOEYSMITHDELUSION; Click to Add Keyword

Romney-Thompson Ticket?

KEYWORDS: ELECTION; FRED; FREDTHOMPSON; MITTISTHEANTICHRIST; ROMNEY; THOMPSON; VP; Click to Add Keyword

People, campaigning can be a hard and painful thing. You have to have a thick skin to run for office and heaven knows, all candidates take their blows, some more than others. But there is such a thing as decency. And this little prank doesn't just cross that line, it obliterates it.

Disagree with the thread? Fine. Present your arguments. You don't like the candidate? Great. Tell me why and make an attempt at intelligent conversation. That's the way this place is supposed to work. But, resorting to such sophomoric, vulgar and quite frankly bigoted childishness is beneath contempt. If you can't manage a reasonable level of maturity, then there's a whole bunch of like minds over at DU you can have fun with.

...or any other cheap little tactic like you displayed in your response. The “I’m taking my ball and going home if I don’t get what I want” response from the Rudy bashers has been consistent and anyone paying attention has captured the theme. You can call it whatever you like, or rationalize it however you like, but it’s clearly a distinction between those who support Rudy and those who do not.

They aren’t content with just posting that picture though. No, now they have to call Judith a dog killer and a slut. I’ve seen some language about her that is really pretty shocking to read on this forum.

Oh, and just today a freeper has noted that NYC isn’t really part of the United States.

The real distinction - those who will vote their conscience, and those who vote for the team no matter what it advocates.

I will NOT have it on my conscience to vote for someone who is pro-abortion. No sir.

I will NOT have it on my conscience to vote for someone who will vote to dismantle the RKBA.

I won’t vote for Dems with those positions - I DEFINITELY won’t vote for a Republican!

I don’t see a lot of difference between Rudy’s positions and Hillary’s, other than rhetorical.

“I submit that if Hillary gets elected, it will be primarily because there was no clear choice in direction to be made between candidates.”

Agreed.

Both are pro abortion.

Both support banning firearms.

Neither will sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge
http://friendsofatr.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

Both are pro gay marriage.

What’s the difference?

Then you must also agree that there is no difference between the callers to conservative talk radio and those that call in to AirAmerica.

I listen to both and I can tell you there is a huge difference between those who are proud to wave a flag from their front porch and support our troops no matter who the President is and those who hold such hatred for Bush that they have become unhinged, secretly wishing and in some cases not so secretly wishing we loose the war in Iraq just to make Bush look worse.

I suggest you attend a Support the Troops Rally in your area, especially when Anti-War crowds are gathering at the gates of a military facility. When the two groups are standing on opposites sides of the street from each other there is a night and day difference.

You want a real example of DU behavior on FR?

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/1811569/posts?page=96#96

Follow that thread up - between me and Peach - where she shows she is averse to facts.

DU type behavior - she manufactures her own victimhood to try to present plausibility for not responding to facts showing that Rudy is no fiscal conservative.

Objection. Assuming facts not in evidence.

You haven't proved this:

...and you’re concerned about the one and only person who can defeat Hillary????

And you can't prove it because it isn't true.

If there’s a recognition that he did those as a joke, or as part of a fundraiser, then fine. There’s nothing to worry about.

It’s the incessant labeling of him as “gay” or a “transvestite” that shows the pure ignorance of the poster.

_______________________________________________________

All irrelevant. It is not the ‘why’ of those pictures, it is the fact that they exist. Do you think the Democrats wanted Virginia to know that Allen was virtually dogged by the Macacca guy?

Nope, didn’t matter, they had the soundbyte of a political candidate sounding like an ass. That was what mattered and they played the bejeebers out of it in the days prior to the election.

Now, if you think those pictures look presidential, that they appear like the guy you want playing hardball with the Iranians, or the Russians, or whomever, the leader of the free world, go for it.

Frankly, the voice-overs when the Dems play the images two weeks before the election will not be so warm and fuzzy, and they will cost votes.

It does not matter why he was in drag. It just is, and it won’t fly.

Could you clarify the keyword situation? I’ve seen it alluded to that you know who posts them. Is there any reason for anonymity? Essentially these are public comments without attribution. Why not post the authors identity when the keywords are clearly over the top? To me, anomously describing Romney as the anti-Christ or encouraging the destruction of NYC renders those posters comments worthless. It would be nice to know who they are.

Worth noting, using keywords for commentary renders them useless as a way of tracking articles.

Pay attention, dear, because the majority of the polls do conclude that were the election held today, Rudy would beat Hillary Clinton. Now some of us have to return to work....

I’m not your dear, and you continue to evade the fact that Rudy is NOT the “one and only” candidate who can beat Hillary.

It remains doubtful whether he can either. He’s proven he can lead her in the polls eighteen months out, and nothing else.

I agree with your post. The rudy-in-drag pics mean nothing to me. However, when shown to those who don't follow politics like we do, that may be just the impression they get.
