I liked that opera singer, too! I've always liked unusual voices, from whisky and tobacco Tom Waits to incomprehensible Liz Frazer. And those two examples would never make a single cut on AI.
The contestant I was sad to see go was the semi-professional gal with the curly hair. She had a good, rich voice.
