Could be a shark jumping event.

In my opinion, a shark was definitely jumped by Idol. What an incredibly stupid and arrogant move.....

Because of the beg-a-thon I did not watch the show last night. I see that I made a wise decision.....

I agree about the bottom 3.

Since Seacrest never said “bottom 2” for Jordin and Chris, my guess is that Chris had the LOWEST votes and Jordin had the most. That’s consistent with almost all the predictor sites.

This is why they purposely had Chris “safe” and left Jordin there thinking she was going home. Not to sound like Randy, but the girl is only 17 and I think it really hit her HARD when they pulled that stunt. She messed up the first notes on that stupid song at the end and I’ve NEVER heard her mess up like that.

Shame on Idol!

People are so funny. I saw this at the George Strait concert a few months ago. I started to tell them it’s a country music concert not a night at the flippin’ opera. And if they thought people were going to sit with their hands folded in their laps when he kicked into “The Fireman” they were out of their minds.

She messed up the first notes on that stupid song at the end and I’ve NEVER heard her mess up like that.

Jordin totally murdered 'You'll Never Walk Alone'. I've liked Jordin from very early on this season, and still do. But that doesn't stop me from being honest about her performance night before last. It was by far her worst. I never thought I'd say this about Jordin, but that song was just too big for her. She did not have the power or range to hit the song's upper register. She was also very breathy in her lower register.

The song is a light operatic number from the 1945 Rogers and Hammerstein musical 'Carousel'. It was very popular during the original Broadway production because of World War II due to its inspirational theme. It's been recorded by many artists including Frank Sinatra, whose version reached #9 on the Billboard charts.

Don't believe me about how bad Jordin's rendition was? Compare it to a good (not great, but good) version thanks to the magic of YouTube:

Shirley Verrett sings "You'll Never Walk Alone" in the revival of Carousel as telecast on the Tony Awards. (Begins with Billy Bigelow's death scene, plus some wag put "severe thunderstorm watch" on the clip. But ignore that and just listen to the performance for comparison purposes.)

And here's Jordin's version from night before last on AI.

BTW, if you do the comparison of Jordin’s version with the Broadway revival version, you’ll also have proof of one more thing: THE JUDGES LIE about the contestants performances when it suits them. Either that, or they really aren’t qualified to judge vocal talent. Me...I think they lie.

I'm not going to discount either theory, but there's also a third factor, something they've openly acknowledged in past seasons, but not in this one -- the "house mix" in the theater isn't that same as the "air mix" that goes out on the broadcast. Much of the time, the judges actually literally are hearing something different than we do.

Whenever Simon talks about changing his opinion after "watching the playback", this is what he refers to.

I found the entire show horribe. Well, there were a few good performances here and there, but alot of painful filler. Also, if Idol really cared, they’d have done this commercial free and without things like the Ford promotional video they do every week with the contestants.

BTW, I totally concur on your opinions regarding Jordin and the show in general on Tuesday.

I understand what you're saying...that the experience of listening to a performance in a theater is different from watching the same performance on TV. But Simon, Paula and Randy are supposed to be pros who can evaluate singers in auditions, during which accoustics and other conditions often are not ideal. In other words, unlike the average person in the theater, they are theoretically supposed to have a practiced ear for distinguishing good vs. poor performances. Yet all-too-often their comments do not sync with the quality, or lack thereof, of a performance. So either they are not as qualified as they claim, or they lie when it suits the production values of the show.

BTW, I also think their evaluations often follow the votes, not the other way around. In other words, once the voting begins and they get a sense of who is selling with the public, they adjust their comments accordingly.

I certainly agree with you and Kidd. The shark has jumped on one of my favorite shows. I hate that. I don't see me caring about it anymore, even next season.

Actually I fell asleep last night and missed that last half but I did watch all of Tuesday night. I did not like the shows. I feel awful about complaining because, well, you know, the chiiiiiildren and all.

It was so odd to see Ryan and Simon in Africa, Simon near collapse in shock at the conditions, and just the whole thing is not what I tune in A.I. for.

I did not know until I read this thread just now that no one was eliminated. I am so glad I was sleeping because if I had waited up and they did that, well just forget them.

I agree with you completely and think they lie to manipulate the vote. They aren’t treating the contestants equally at all. We aren’t the only ones noticing it either. I hope the backlash is huge. I know it isn’t the contestants fault, but, that doesn’t mean the fans won’t show their displeasure with their votes. It’s all they have to show their displeasure with.

I’m so glad I missed a bad night of cheesy performances and strong-arm fundraising methods.

A&E is re-running Sopranos on Wed. nights, and that’s what I watched. I never saw it the first time around on HBO. Really terrific acting.

No more Wed. night Idol for me. It’s Tony and his gang for me for the next several weeks.

“Cut to a man in Africa who has been to 208 funerals—all due to malaria”

ROFL! They serve lots of food after funerals in Africa. That’s why people like him go to every funeral for everyone in his village—and the next five villages over.

Those are some amazing ratings. I personally would have preferred to see a bunch of former Idols on the stage, rather than current non-Idol pop stars. But nobody asked me. :-)
