I became a Republican because I didn't want the government trying to cram their values down my throat. Much to my surprise, some in the "conservative" movement want to do just that.

Enter the scare factor. Somehow being dictated to does not sit well with most people.

Some of these people use and need fear and anger to further their agenda.

That stuff doesn't play well with thinking mature stable people.
