It was 1000% designed to cross over to "pop" radio. It's a good record given that target audience. For a pure alt.rock audience it misses the mark.

Maybe. But I, for one, am glad it's not a pure alt.rock album. I'm a big Daughtry fan, but I am not a big alt.rock fan. I love Chris' voice and tone, and this album, to me, sounds a little like bands from the 80s and 90s with a contemporary edge. Here's for bringing back "hard rock", which really wan't all that hard. :-)

I'm not a big alt-rocker either. To me, Daughtry's album is too much that way as it is, but that's because I have little tolerance for the straining voice and thrashing chords inherent in that style of music.

But kudos to him for being good at what he does and his great success. He's earned it. To each his own.

Lyrically it sounds like the late 80's glam rock bands (Poison, Cinderella, White Lion, Winger, Ratt, et al) as that was pure entertainment. Nothing wrong with that as I loved those bands during that time. Daughtry's record was designed to sell in the pop market. It's Nickelback versus Audioslave.
