Ex-border agents sentenced for shooting smuggler
AP

EL PASO, Texas -- Two former U.S. Border Patrol agents were each sentenced Thursday to more than a decade in federal prison for shooting a Mexican drug smuggler and then trying to cover it up.

Ignacio Ramos was sentenced to 11 years and one day, and Jose Alonso Compean was sentenced to 12 years. Both were fired after their convictions on several charges including assault with a deadly weapon, obstruction of justice, and a civil rights violation.

The men, neither of whom spoke in court, will be allowed to turn themselves in Jan. 17.

The agents have proclaimed their innocence in the Feb. 17, 2005, shooting of admitted drug smuggler Osvlado Aldrete Davila.

Aldrete was shot in the buttocks as he fled across the Rio Grande into Mexico after a confrontation with Ramos and Compean. The agents said they shot in self defense, but prosecutors charged that they had no reason to shoot at the fleeing man, who later claimed he was unarmed.

Since their convictions, support for the agents has swelled. Several prominent law makers, including U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner, the Wisconsin Republican who chairs the House judiciary committee, have even called for a Congressional investigation into the agents' prosecutions.

The union representing most rank and file Border Patrol agents established a legal defense fund. And civilian border watch groups have asked the U.S. Attorney General's office to review the case and throw out the jury's guilty verdicts.

All GOP is RINO - no difference anymore

Then you are clueless.

Just look at who voted to pass the House bill requiring voter ID.

You probably shouldn't vote, but not for the reason you think.

Lighten up Mike. At least I didn't really diss him by accusing him of being a product of the Ohio Public School System.

My cousin (47 yrs. old) and her husband (Sean & Donna Wilson) from Mt. Juliet, TN, were both killed in a car wreck in June by an illegal immigrant who was fleeing in an SUV from a policeman. The guy was drunk and had already been arrested on at least - read it - fourteen (14) different occasions for serious violations - with his status never being checked and worst of all him NOT BEING TAKEN OFF THE STREETS and sent back to Meckiko. - I tell you, when a person you have held in your arms as a baby dies in this manner, it becomes personal real fast.

THIS IS STUPID.

You are correct.

No, after reading further it appears they did quite a bit more than just shoot the person.

I should've read further before I posted.

The problem is not the GOP. It is a foreign subculture infiltration of the GOP oxymoronically called neocons (because they are not conservative) which exist to promote the NWO and global mercantilism, a move towards central planning. The GOP is fine, but it needs a strong paleocon (classical liberal) to come in and kick out the neocons, return this country to its Common Law roots that came out of England with the Magna Carta. The democrat side of the aisle has also been similarly infiltrated. That is why you get the feeling that there is no difference between the parties. Both have been too heavily infiltrated by elements that descend from socialist roots, and wants to expand the scope Roman civil law which is far less friendly to individual rights, and far more tilted toward the legislature controlled by a ruling elite.

Lou Dobbs is a Republican.

BS. He's stated many times that he's part of neither party, but his views tend toward Libertarian.

I think every Freeper in Texas should vote against Governor Rick Perry on November 7 as a protest. He refused to intervene on behalf of the Border Patrol Agents.

Mind telling me where a STATE governor has standing to intervene in a FEDERAL case involving the misdeeds of FEDERAL officers?

Best of luck.

Look, it's pretty obvious from your posts on this thread that you have played a part in this case or similar cases.

Nope. It's common sense.

In my book picking up your shellcasings is at most a ministerial fault.

It's a felony.

Is this one of Ernesto's girls?

You lost me.

At least I didn't accuse you of being someone with some sense. Now why don't you take your smarmy BS, your "woe-is-me I Blame Bush for the fact that my life sucks" attitude and shove it?

I went to a private college prep school, then did undergraduate work and graduate work and then got a doctorate.
Did you graduate from high school?

Hey, it was in El Paso; how smart could the jurors be?

What type of fraud are the jurors claiming? That someone lied about the sentence that THEY handed down?

Were they told about the immunity deal? They certainly should be so that they can judge the veracity and trustworthiness of the witness.

Good afternoon.
"No....This COUNTRY sucks."

If you feel that way, it's sort of dumb for you to still be here, eh. There are planes leaving whenever you choose to go. Bye.

When questioned by a prosecutor, Ramos testified he didn't see any physical confrontation between Osvlado Aldrete Davila and Compean but assumed there had been since he found Compean on the ground after hearing several shots fired.

Ramos didn't even see the shooting - still got 10+ years.
