Guess you're one of those that thinks taxation is a zero sum game, and that static ananysis reflects reality. No I just don't pretend that "revenue neutral" sales tax doesn't have meaning when revenue's have increased by income tax tax cuts.
If you think you can show how adding 30% to existing retail sales and services would not have an negative effect and raise the same amount of revenue as the Bush tax cuts...have at it.
I see your love affair with the income tax and the IRS hasn't abated.
"If you think you can show how adding 30% to existing retail sales and services would not have an negative effect and raise the same amount of revenue as the Bush tax cuts...have at it."
First and most obviously no one is "... adding 30% to existing retail sales and services ..." since the correct tax exclusive rate would be 29.87%, not 30. In addition the taxpayer may PAY the item price plus the tax inclusive 23% marginal rate at the point of purchase but his actual COST is the item price plus his own effective FairTax rate which is much, much less typically.
Raising the same revenue is easily done since there are millions of taxpayers added to the tax base in the way of those now paying nothing in tax including millions and millions of those in the illegal economy.
As has been pointed out before prices of things will decrease when the income tax is a thing of the past and that, combined with lowered effective tax rates will benefit most present taxpayers. Those not now paying tax won't like it of course but it is a more even way to raise government revenue and makes everyone more aware of how much their government costs them. There are certainly some in this category who actively oppose the FairTax as a matter of self interest without considering the positive effects on future generations of having the FairTax.
