I understand that...in all probablility, they would not arm themelves...but you never know once their children are being killed.

I am just so tired of the slaughter and then the idiots leftists, politicians, media, etc. somehow trying to spin and PC away from the obvious solution of letting the law abiding citizens, who are on the scene when these things go down, be the first line of defense.

Our founders understood this, whether the criminal conduct was institutionalized or individual.

Not true. The Amish set themselves apart and have different customs, but they know and deal with their neighbors, sell their produce at local markets, vote, pay taxes, and probably shop at Wal-Mart. They largely keep to themselves, but there are a lot more insular groups in Pennsylvania, let alone the US, let alone the wide world.
