And I've always believed that the Amish are, in fact, the barometers of freedom in this country, and therefor the world. And, much like the "star spangled banner" still flying at "dawns early light". An Amish buggy bouncing down the road tells me that freedom still exists in this country. I also believe that there is a spirit, who's plans are threatened by the very existence of these people. And, I expect this spirit's minions to use this opportunity to try to force these people into the "21st century".
It will be interesting to see who rises up and offers solutions designed to "protect" them.
One other interesting factoid. The current US population of Amish is estimated at between 150,000 and 200,000. I certainly wouldn't be surprised if it was closer to 144,000.
