Roy could be a nickname. That isn't uncommon among men who are Jr's, III's, IV's, etc.
My FIL is Buddy and my dh is Bill.
Everybody in my family has 2 names ~ one used pretty much among family and friends, and then one for the world.
Now that we have the internet to consider most of us have several more names.
