I don't believe the Jews consider themselves any more insular than, say, the Presbyterians, either.

That's just not true. I'm Pres and we don't consider ourselves as the least bit insular. Jews live in the world, but are an exclusive community within it. The Amish, of whom I have much respect, are extremely insular. They want it that way and have paid the price genetically. They are wonderful people.

Look up the definitin of the word insular - "characteristic of an isolated people"

Your post is a contradiction. If you live in the world, you are not insular in the same sense as are the Amish.
