There are laws that exist to punish employers who hire illegal aliens, but they are not enforced. Even if Congress passes a bill calling for mandatory 20 year prison terms for these employers, this bill is a dead letter if the executive branch refuses to enforce it. The solution to the illegal alien problem is not to pass new laws, but effectively enforce those already on the books.

Illegals are illegals and should have to go home. If they want to come here make them follow the laws like most Americans do.
Stop welfare for those without real disabilities and make them take the jobe illegals currently do if they have little or no skills.
Or else some one like Trancredo will come along and win.

Teddy Roosevelt actually wanted "UNLIMITED" immigration of the "right kind" - do you agree with that?

I am rapidly reaching the point where I just flat tune "G"uest "W"orker Bush out anymore, I really could care less what he has to say. Betray me once, shame on you, betray me twice, shame on me. No Mulligan on the illegals GW, I am done with you.

I looked at your other thread. You did not find too many "votes" against legal immigration, perhaps six or seven.

Since current (duplicates included) signups are over 240,000, it does not reflect majority opinion here let alone an active minority.

WASHINGTON — Accusing politicians of "pounding their chests" on immigration for short-term political gain, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that the tone of the debate had been "hurtful" to him and his Mexican-born wife, Columba.

Bush, the younger brother of President Bush, reserved some of his sharpest criticism for conservatives in his own Republican Party, calling it "just plain wrong" to charge illegal immigrants with a felony, as a provision passed by the Republican-led House would do. He also opposed "penalizing the children of illegal immigrants" by denying them U.S. citizenship, an idea backed by some conservatives but not included in the legislation.

"My wife came here legally, but it hurts her just as it hurts me when people give the perception that all immigrants are bad," the Florida governor wrote in an e-mail exchange with The Times.

Several points:

1) Jeb Bush just destroyed any chance for the Republican nomination for '08.

2) If your wife came here legally from Mexico and is feeling hurt by anti-illegal immigration issues, then her heart is really Mexican and not American, just like the illegals.

3) You support illegal immigration by failing to recognize these people are law breakers.

Based on these points, you shouldn't even be governor becasue you are starting to become an "American Second" politician.

When you start calling President Bush a "traitor," I think you step over a very clear line. I don't like it at all.

There are ways to disagree with what President Bush does, and there are other ways that exceed boundaries.

Oh, stuff it, Jeb. We're doing nothing of the sort. YOU, however, are doing your best to muddy the debate with this kind of nonsense.

The divide between the Bush clan and the grassroots GOP becomes more apparent with each passing day.

No shit Jeb, stupid me, I must have missed your little nuance of not differentiating betwixt "LEGAL" and "ILLEGAL" immigrants.

Stupid jerk off, these pols make me physically ill.

I have an idea! Lets write a new law. It could go something like Any foreign person wishing to reside or work in the United States will be required to apply for a government issued identification. I don't know, lets call it a "green card" This card will allow you to work in the U.S for "x" amount of years. When the date on your "green card" is expired you will be required to return to your country of origin.

If any foreign person wishes to become a citizen of the U.S. they will be required to obtain an id showing their status until they have completed an exhaustive course on American history and laws. Once this course is completed and passed you will swear an allegiance to your new country, The United States of America and will become an American citizen."

I don't know what the laws are now but it seems something like this would solve our problem. If this can't be done then my post 43 should be okayed by Congress and signed by the President.

I agree. However, politicians like Jeb in turn shouldn't be pulling this kind of nonsense - it just leads to people having very strong emotions.

Jeb and the Prez need to wake up and realize what this issue means to large segments of the base, and quit playing rhetorical games to distract from the legitimate concerns here.
