WASHINGTON Accusing politicians of "pounding their chests" on immigration for short-term political gain, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that the tone of the debate had been "hurtful" to him and his Mexican-born wife, Columba.
Bush, the younger brother of President Bush, reserved some of his sharpest criticism for conservatives in his own Republican Party, calling it "just plain wrong" to charge illegal immigrants with a felony, as a provision passed by the Republican-led House would do. He also opposed "penalizing the children of illegal immigrants" by denying them U.S. citizenship, an idea backed by some conservatives but not included in the legislation.
"My wife came here legally, but it hurts her just as it hurts me when people give the perception that all immigrants are bad," the Florida governor wrote in an e-mail exchange with The Times.

"It's the GLOBAL economy, stupid!"
If illegal immigrants were really a boon to the economy, EVERY country would be demanding their immediate repatriation.
How stupid does Bush think we are?
They take out FAR MORE than they put in.
Comprende?
Wasn't this "P" loser involved in some kind of stalking incident?
bump!
No need for the personal attacks - it was an honest question. Your "It may not last long" could have referred to (a) The Bush dynasty, (b) This thread, or I guess (c) were you referring to "a couple of OBL's desperately trying to defend Bush"?
He clearly shows why we've had enough of the Bush family's dynasty.
"I'm sooo glad you and your ilk are able to arrogantly sit back to mock and heckle fellow Freepers you don't agree with. Maybe we should charge you for the pleasure since you obviously need more constructive entertainment. "
Oh, yeah, because I mean it just dawned on me that I've not been insulted or had my President insulted a SINGLE TIME by any knuckle-dragging neanderthal hate-mongering, phony Freeper goober. So, you've really made an excellent point.
I'm glad that he's emboldened now to get on Fox news and tell the world that his feelings are hurt. (sure)
Mama's boy telegraphs to legal and illegal Hispanics that his wife is Mexican. This was nothing but a PLOY to keep the illegals in the streets and keep them ginned up.
Gin, em up Jeb.
I've been harping about Jeb for a solid year.

Your link's back.
Jesse Jackson was right after all, "Stay out da Bushes!"
Can we sue the potus for slander?
Even John Thune of SD knows about the tax implications.
Jeb's a chameleon and America should be very concerned because he's a two faced, double dealer and not a true conservative.
I said a few days ago that Jeb Bush was a bad guy underneath (before I knew he was going to come out for a foreign country instead of to stop an invasion.) was right then and I'm right now.
I helped him get re-elected. I apologize. FV
Jeb's call to arms is to gin up the illegal aliens. Others have called him a traitor on this thread. If you'd like an opportunity to discuss Jeb Bush, here's the place 4 u.

Unfortunately Jeb and GW are completely wrong on this issue. They themselves are using it as a "political football". They are attempting to equate legal immigrant with ILLEGAL immigrant! The complete disregard for US LAWS is the issue here. Why would we want to reward people who have so little respect for this country they break our laws to be here? While here many continue to break laws - including creation of phony documents, applying for assistance programs meant for legal residents... not to mention the out and out gangster element.
Sorry, but as much as I respect (and wholeheartedly support) the Bush's on other issues, they have their heads up their nether regions on this one.
Ping!
"you are sooooo creative with the adjectives. Why, Bush must be so proud!!"
Thanks. I take pride in my creative spirit. The President must like me, too. He sends me Christmas cards.
