WASHINGTON — Accusing politicians of "pounding their chests" on immigration for short-term political gain, Florida Gov. Jeb Bush said Tuesday that the tone of the debate had been "hurtful" to him and his Mexican-born wife, Columba.

Bush, the younger brother of President Bush, reserved some of his sharpest criticism for conservatives in his own Republican Party, calling it "just plain wrong" to charge illegal immigrants with a felony, as a provision passed by the Republican-led House would do. He also opposed "penalizing the children of illegal immigrants" by denying them U.S. citizenship, an idea backed by some conservatives but not included in the legislation.

"My wife came here legally, but it hurts her just as it hurts me when people give the perception that all immigrants are bad," the Florida governor wrote in an e-mail exchange with The Times.

You would disobey because you know it's unconstitutional and as an American citizen are guaranteed those rights.

Illegals are invading trash and do not have the right to disobey our laws regardless of what is happening in their own country.

Typical OBL response to earned criticism?

I've got a question for YOU: does the RNC or DNC cut you a check each week for putting forward deconstructionist propaganda?

At least that are willing to admit in public, I agree.

All that's missing is for you to say that our side is against illegal immigration, the Stormfronters are against illegal immigration, so therefore our side is a bunch of closet Stormfronters.

"The fact that he's being called a traitor is of his own making.
"

So, you really ARE calling President Bush a traitor. Perhaps you should consider changing your FReepname.

Aaaah sinkspur, always willing to distort a post to make a charge of racism.

I can always count on you to fall into that trap.

Just because you fail to post the rest of that paragraph doesn't make it go away.

You have learned well from the democrats how to misuse a quote.

Susie - I volunteered for Bush in 04. I was proud to get him re-elected. But I have been very dissapointed as well. I have been warned by many on here to keep quiet about the fact that Bush has betrayed our party and the conservative values.

I am proud conservative who believes in principle over party - I am coming to understand that FR is not interested in those values.

I was told not to use the Bushbot term. When has FR become so PC??

Jim Robinson called McCain a traitorous bastard - but I can not use the term Bushbot???? It is obvious that the RINOs control and moderate this site. Oh well - I have nothing against that but it is obvious that they would rather silience certain conservative voices who believe that this president is not working for the best interests of US citizens. How is that our men and women can lay their lives on the line but illegals should be allowed to have the same or more rights and benefits than them. Something has gone terribly wrong in the US and its time we continue to speak out.

Stay strong

I don't have a well formed opinion on legal immigration. I know that we need laws governing it, I know that we must have some sort of vetting of people coming in, and I know that we should have some sort of system as to numbers. I'm against opening our borders and calling anyone who wants to come in a legal immigrant. Does that make me against immigration? What is your position?

All the while the sane of us give them the answer, you don't have to deport them. If you take away all their benefits and make it impossible for them to work here they will deport themselves.

They walked over here so they can walk back since they already know the way.

Oh I see, pointing out to you how it can be that people would call him a traitor is the same thing AS calling him a traitor. Got it.

As for my screen name, I think I'll keep it. It makes the point for me of how far the man has slid from his early days in my opinion.

Thank you, yes I think that while some employers are just blatant and know they are hiring illegals, it is probably difficult for others to be sure.
Anyway, it seems that our politicians can't come up with what it took me 5 minutes to formulate. And it's not like I'm a genius.
