Guys on teh entry team are not actively involved in the investigation, they are called to perform the raid only.
Training to perform entries involves learning how to make it through a house ( any soze and floorplan ) and secure all persons inside in the quickest amount of time for two reasons. One, every one's safety and two, the preservation of evidence.
I too have "secured" persons in the dark ( some raids are perform in the night and you do not turn on the lights as you run through the house ) that after the fact I realize I was a bit to rough on, but that is the nature of the job. The first time you relax and slow down is the time someone sees you coming and fires shots through the door at you, hits you with a baseball bat, takes a hostage, or jumps out a window.

Must be rough to have to work under that sort of paranoiac anxiety.
If you want to play soldier, join the Marines. This bounce-them-around attitude just to get an adrenaline rush is getting way old, and is using up any respect us law abiding citizens had. I, and many others, no longer trust you. With 80-year-old couples being hospitalized, and cops arresting people in BARS for drinking, things are spinning out of control.
So, it sounds like the only saftey concerns are your own saftey and damn any innocent people who might be in the house bacause "that's the nature of the job." If this is the type of mindset drilled into these officers then I have as much to fear from my local SWAT team as I do from any drug dealers in the community.
Why don't you just set up .50 caliber machine guns up in front of the house and rake it good first?
The suspect you were apprehending was what? A murder? Serial killer? Terrorist? A drug dealer that would have no turf to protect if not for the war on drugs and in all probability wouldn't be a drug dealer if not for the WOsomeD.
Too many small towns and counties are hiring jackbooted thugs for cops.
They build oversized police departments because they want
to collect traffic fines, then the departments get out of hand, due to incompetence.
This is not a case of hostages being held. It is a purported dope lab. Big deal.
Let your big time swat team surround the house and wait for daylight. Call the house on the phone and see what happens.
There are way too many cases of the cops busting down the wrong door.
