Imagine if the belief that Emperor Hirohito was divine was prevalent in many countries, and not just Japan during WWII.
This is what we essentially up against in the future war with Islam. Fanatics that are on par with the Japanese during WWII.
Of course, Japan was cured relatively easily after WWII, it will not be so simple with Islam, I'm afraid.
It seems that nukes will be required to cure fanaticism of this caliber. It worked for the Japanese, maybe we should start looking at Qom, Mecca and Medina?
