:"I think no small part of preferring foreign-born engineering graduates to home-grown is in their scholastic performance. Too many here are content to just squeak by on math and science." pretty well sums it up.

You are actually quite ignorant concerning what is happening in this country. I have a BS with honors in Computer Science (Engineering based), with Physics and Math "areas". I graduated in 1972, so I've been in the industry for over 30 years. I have four eight-foot bookshelves crammed with books about my trade ... and I have read them all. Yet, it is difficult to find a decent job in the field now.

The difficulty in finding a job is purely because they are no longer available; however, they were bountiful merely five years ago. The difference is that American companies, practicing the "United We Stand" mantra, have sent the jobs offshore.

They are gutting America in order for temporary inflation of the bottom line. Wise up before it is too late.

We've seen this happening over time. I wonder if it's not related to the creation of 401k thus the en masse movement of people into the stock market?
American companies around that time period began to de-emphasize R&D and strategic plans in favor of tactical moves and quarterly profits. Perhaps in response to added pressure from the public?
This seems to be the fuition of that type of activity. Nothing matters but this quarters earnings statement.
Thus, America is sold out.

Because the American consumer wants the cheapest software. Which video game would you buy for your kids, the $50 one or the $100 one?

Actually I know A LOT about Computer Science...and having multiple degrees and lots of books is no guarantee you'll find a decent job. As you probably already know, the computer industry is changing, literally, every day. And if you are going to keep up, you have to change, too.

A good friend of mine is making a bundle these days...he has NO degrees, learned how to take apart and put a computer back together on his kitchen table, and now works out of his house. He is ALSO a classic geek, more of a hermit than anything, but is also making quite a good living for himself and his family.

Life is about adapting; you learn to be a survivor by adapting and offering something to the public that has yet to be offered, then making us believe we can't live without your invention. Buggys and buggy whips are no longer relevant; now we can't live without our cars.

Thank you for telling the truth. I have relatives who studied computer science and now they are up the creek without a paddle. Job after job has been sent to India, Mexico, and other third world nations.

Little by little America is going to realize that the redistribution of our jobs and wealth, along with the care of millions of illegals will indeed bring America down to third world status.

The alliance of government and business will bring wealth and power to the elite of this nation, but not to the hard working citizens.

With all due respect, are you qualified to write modern software? Are you qualified to design faster and smaller computer chips? Are you qualified to create AND MAINTAIN web-sites for the computer-illiterate?

If not, please consider if our immensely profitable, but fast-paced, information technology industry might have simply left you behind...

There is no question that you are one of the most qualified people in your field. Perhaps, the next book you buy should be not of Java or data structures but economics.

Has it occurred to you that you may be overpriced?
