well-established Napoleonic Code the Dutch system is based upon

Is Dutch legal system similar to Louisiana...I think they have a different kind of legal system than rest of U.S. - based on Napoleonic Code, also, but perhaps not as fully as Aruba.

And, you are correct; the Dutch have been very helpful in the War on Terrorism. I had forgotten that myself until your reminder.

I'd like to know the answer to that too. I'm not a lawyer, but maybe if we have any FReeper lawyers from Louisiana, one of you could comment on that.

The little I know about Louisiana law, I learned years ago when I had a property rights problem. At that time I learned that Louisiana's law is based on the Napoleonic Code (and not the English common law system the rest of our states follow).

So all I could tell you is that property rights, under Louisiana law, are not based on the English system. (For example, they have no such thing as the form of squatter's rights known in English common law as "adverse possession.")

I would guess, however, that Louisiana under federal Constitutional law would have to treat criminal defendants (giving them Miranda warnings, etc.) the same as every other state.

Yes, our so-called conservative commentators would do well to remember that. However much we slam Holland for its extremely liberal social policies, we shouldn't forget that they have bravely supported us in Iraq.

And I believe Holland has been trending in a more conservative direction, politically, after the assassinations of Pim Fortuyn and Theo van Gogh.
