I think that is exactly what she meant. But from that, we can impute the importance of the "meds." Beth is saying she would not have run off without them. It matters what they were...the way they interact with other drugs

Yup, that is what it points to. Of course, some drugs take a person into another realm (I don't think Jurine went into that realm with Nat because he went to class the next day). And this would have meant that Nat was so altered that she didn't care.

If she were that drunk, she would have asked Jurine to get her to the hotel. Even drunks know they have to sober up...however painful it might be.

The fact that Jurine did not see her back to the hotel meant that he had an ulterior motive with this touriste.

Jurine is either guilty of sexual abuse of a drugged girl or he is guilty of worse.
