My great-great grandfather fought under two versions of the battle flag of the Confederacy: The first was the flag flown in the Western Theater, which was very different from the St. Andrew's Cross used by the Army of Northern Virginia, then, prior to Chickamauga, the western Reb armies adopted the St. Andrew's Cross as their battle flag as well.

My own experience with the Civil War, however, was under the Stars and Stripes.....yet I am totally unable to hate the "Southern Cross."

P.S. The flag desecrated by the Klan, the skinheads, and the neo-Nazis is the Confederate naval jack, not the ANV battle flag.

While most battle flags were square, The Army of Tennessee Battle Flag is identical to the Naval Jack.
