in point of fact, NONE of the persons you listed was EVER charged with/convicted of ANY crime, even by the south-HATING, RADICAL REPUBLICANS. Neither were Sherman, Sheridan, Grant, or Lincoln.
To: D Rider
actually, NONE of the navy/army/marine/revenue service battle-flags was "official". the enabling legislation never passed out of committee.
the ONLY official flags were the THREE National flags:
1.Stars & Bars (at least 3 variations: 7,11& 13 stars)
2 Stainless Banner &
3. Third National.

NO. but they darn well should have been.
MURDERING POWs in your care & slaughtering/raping/looting the property of civilians are WAR CRIMES, punishable under the Law of War by DEATH.

NO. but they darn well should have been. Well then so should Forrest and Lee and Quantrill, for the actions of the men under their command. And Quantrill for his own murderous activities as well. Bear in mind this is all according to your definition of a war criminal.
To: stand watie
I guess they had better things to do, with the war on and all. And just left it up to the service commanders.
The Navy Ensign was the National Flag. By tradition inherited from the Royal Navy, the jack of the US Navy is the union of the ensign. So the Ensign was official, while the Jack was based on tradition. This explains the uniform nature of the CSN Flags(Ensigns.)

frankly, i'm surprised that Nate Forrest was NOT charged, given the HATEFULNESS & arrogant STUPIDITY of the RADICAL REPUBLICAN administration.
COL Quantrell, otoh, died before anyone could charge him with anything.
my ancestor, otoh, WAS tried "in absentia" & sentenced to death by hanging for "murder of loyal Union officers" & "stealing Army livestock" & "other common crimes", but the damnyankees could never catch "Little Thunder". (didn't ANYONE point out to the DAMNyankee MORNS on the tribunal that there was a WAR on???)
he died of OLD AGE in OK in 1917.

maybe so.
i asked Devereau Cannon about that & he said, "the CSN was better at uniformity" than the land forces.

frankly, i'm surprised that Nate Forrest was NOT charged, given the HATEFULNESS & arrogant STUPIDITY of the RADICAL REPUBLICAN administration. Not to mention the murder of surrendering Union soldiers by men under his command at Pillow.
COL Quantrell, otoh, died before anyone could charge him with anything.
Shouldn't he have been charged for his crimes?
To: stand watie
That would make Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee, and the entire Confederate cabinet guilty of war crimes for what they allowed to happen at Andersonville.
This whole "war crimes' discussion as it relates to the Civil War is silly and pathetic. You can call names and throw insults all you want on either side. Unfortunately, some people insist on seeing everything through a one-way mirror.

SORRY, but you LOSE this one.
the US ARMY JAG admits that there were NO intentional WAR CRIMES committed at Camp Sumter, Andersonville, GA. period.end of story.
there was MUCH sickness & death (due to a lack of food/medicine/supplies & LITTLE understanding of the causes of disease), but NO INTENTIONAL crimes against POWs.
otoh, the damnyankees INTENTIONALLY slaughtered at least 15,000 CSA POWs at just ONE of their many CONCENTRATION CAMPS, mainly because they didn't want to FEED them!

read the earlier threads on Andersonville.
there was NO INTENTIONAL war crimes committed there. even the US ARMY JAG admits that.
otoh, there were TENS of THOUSANDS of CSA POWs INTENTIONALLY abused/tortured/denied food/denied shelter & clothing/MURDERED by the damnyankees at their many CONCENTRATION CAMPS. (15,000 were MURDERED at PLPOWC alone in about 20 months!)
the US CONGRESS passed a JOINT RESOLUTION, in early 1862,demanding that the "rebel prisoners in our hands" be treated as if they were in the hands of the "savage tribes".

William T. Sherman is one of the finest generals in American history.Too bad he didn't put the torch to more traitor strongholds.
It' amazing that some of you come on these threads and accuse Southerners of bearing grudges for too long. Talk about disingenuous. Those are our ancestors you are talking about. When you say they are traitors and Sherman should have torched more of their property you shouldn't expect anything but contempt from us.

Not a strike at all. Here is your original quote:
Well, heck. At least you aren't intolerant of any other viewpoint than your own.
You sarcastically accused me of intolerance, but like the left, you showed
your intolerance in the process. Had I posted something arguing in favor of the Federals throwing dissenters in jail and Sherman's plundering of civilians in the south, I don't think I would've heard from you.
By the way, exactly what in this article do you factually dispute?

Strike two. The quote refers, once again, to your hubris. At least you recognized the sarcasm. Which, not surprisingly you continue with your attempts to smear by referring to anything that might not match your view with the left.
Now as to the article. Why should I proofread it for you or research it for you? Would you accept anything from me? Would anything I write make a dent at all? Or are you looking to get into a rabid name calling session that these threads often devolve into. My past posts are more about you and your hubris than the article. Whether it was North or South, pro slavery or anti slavery, I read for information, not propaganda. If you truly need help researching an article I will help.

Oh.... so you're self-appointed "Post Police" eh? If you don't like these threads, why do you bother? You assumption that I'm asking you to proofread or research the article is laughable. Go police another thread.
