Constantine was killing the true believers till he got the idea to change all the idols names in their pagan Sun God temples, to Mary, Jesus, Peter, Paul and bring the christians into their pagan worship. No, actually, pagan traditions were incorporated as a means of providing the lifelong pagans of the Roman empire with a point of reference for Christian theological practice. Instead of celebrating the Winter Solstice, the pagans who had celebrated the coming of Winter throughout their lifetimes were encouraged to worship Christ instead in celebration of His birthday using the traditional feast that they understood. If I wanted to have a conversation with you, I'm going to speak to you in a language you understand, not Swahili.

What was the literacy rate of the Roman Empire? How many printing presses were there? Zero, I believe? Latin was the language of the Empire. Again, I could type this all in WINGDINGS but it won't do you much good.

When was it removed again? I suppose the Sistine Chapel is a graven image? You don't see God in the masterpieces of Leonardo DaVinci? God is glorified in the image of His holiest servants. They're not worshiped, though you'll stomp your feet and insist that they are - even though you're not Catholic and clearly don't have a scintella of understanding of the Catholic faith.
