The colon surgery was my mother's 3rd cancer surgery in 35 years. She was willing to have one lung and part of her liver removed if that would've contained the metastasis, but she would have had to go through chemo, and she didn't want to. She wanted what was left of her life to be good, so she traveled and painted and wrote stories for a year after the diagnosis, till she was in too much pain. She looked on it as a bonus year to enjoy life, and she did.
