Did Hildy say the parents have dollar signs in their eyes, or something to that effect? My understanding is that the husband and parents used to be close. He even lived with them for a time. Then that settlement money came in, and they had a falling out that led to the court battles. Apparently, the parents wanted their cut of the settlement money, and when they didn't get it, they tied their son-in-law up in the courts. So most of the money went to who else but the lawyers. They always make out like bandits.

The whole thing is a disgusting mess -- nothing God-like about it whatsoever. Just human beings doing what humans often do best, which is to say they were acting like pigs at a through over the money and the power in their relationship.

And we're supposed to upset our entire system of government for these slugs? Heck NO!!!

You know I love GWB and will always support him. But as far as I'm concerned, he made a bad mistake upsetting his schedule and spending lots of taxpayer dollars to fly back to DC to sign that misguided thing the Congress stupidly passed. Their proper role is on the macro level, crafting legislation that would set national policy for cases similar to Schiavo.

Yes, Hildy nailed it from the get go.
She's away on a small vacation to check
on the construction of her new home, but
she'll be back sometime Friday. I did call
her on her cell with the news as reported
by Abram's. I'm planning to watch the replay
of his show, just to see his stunned face as
Peach has described.

Yes, it's my understanding that a money matter
started the disruption between the husband and the parents.

Ditto your post 100 times.

And I will add, not only did the Schindlers love Michael, they testified in court that they encouraged him to start dating again. They asked to meet his future girlfriends.

He was 26, IIRC, when she had her cardiac arrest, and they knew he was too young to sit by the bedside of their daughter who was PVS.

In '93 the doctors recommended he have the tube pulled. He refused. A few years later he petitioned the courts to make a decision when he realized it was hopeless. The courts noted in their ruling that he effectively weakened his position when he did that.
