Nice post and anecdotal experiences--thanks. Same here--we always talked to the patients, explained treatments to them, and informed them of every activity. We discussed prognosis away from the bedside.

I saw far too many hopeless cases, after lengthy rehab and therapy, walk back into our unit to thank us for our care.

Thanks...you made an excellent point about always discussing the prognosis of the patient away from the bedside...you just never know if they can hear you or not, so you just assume that they can hear you and understand what is being said...
