Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday that subpoenas issued by Sen. Mike Enzi compelling Terri Schiavo to appear at a March 28 congressional hearing made it a crime to disconnect her feeding tube - and threatened anyone who interfered with her testimony with jail.
In a statement issued by the majority leader's office, Frist said:
"Federal criminal law protects witnesses called before official Congressional committee proceedings from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness attendance or testimony."
"More specifically," said the Senate's top Republican, "the law protects a witness from anyone who - by threats, force, or by any threatening letter or communication - influences, obstructs, or impedes an inquiry or investigation by Congress.
"Anyone who violates this law is subject to criminal fines and imprisonment," Frist said.

Terri's life is more important than words on paper.
Get it?
I don't buy the sanctitiy of marriage in this situation. MS only waited a short time before having children with another woman! Hello, McFly (nuggies to head.)
Nah, he's a smart guy ....... and he loves the Cubs and baseball. ;-)
We can make an exception for Peach, though, can't we?
I sure hope someone didn't call her that. I may disagree with her, but that's not right either.
I think some people are edging very close to abuse right now.
"it isn't pretty, being easy!"
More important that the Constitution?
How much further examination is required???? Looks like this thing has been examined to death and still has no end in sight.
She is indeed PVS which means medical decisions have been placed on her husband, not congress, not the general public. This is not a public matter until a death certificate is issued. Until that time it is a private matter and there are privacy matters that continue to be violated.
Alleged mistreatment has not been proven or criminal charges would have been forthcoming. Since that has not happened there has been no documented mistreatment and no further reasons to keep examining the same information from the same sources.
I don't see it as an attack; it looks more like they are finally deciding to start enforcing certain laws. I hope they start enforcing the border laws as well.
No exceptions, this ain't a cafeteria.
Here's a clue for you: a lot of us here don't put a lot of credence in to some people's posts and ignore them.
He's not conservative enough. He talks the talk...sometimes, but won't walk the walk.
I hear you! This is a huge departure, but I sure wish something had been done for Terri years ago.
Btw, did you get to see any of Tracy and Hepburn (Adam's Rib) last night? ;-)
Hmmmmm.
I regularly knocked claims for money due out of the park whenever I ran into the old "no objection" business. That's because the law I operated under required that I collect no more than was lawfully due.
Matters of life and death appear to be subject to a lower standard than that in Judge Greer's court.
I don't think you can name any mainstream Christian churches that don't support Living Wills.
What Cracker-Jack box did you get your MD and license to practice medicine at, Mr Know-It-All?
My son was a quad, and he wanted to live.
He was 16 at the time. He later won a full academic scholarship to Hofstra University, and got a canine companion to help him along.
Believe me, has was a very active teenager before his accident..........yet he still wanted to live.
It's easy for you to say that you would have wanted to die, because you recovered.
Hypothetical.
Exactly WHERE in the Constitution does it say anything to back up the garbage you've been posting?
Put up or shut up.
