Frist Threatens Jail for Terri [Schiavo] Judge

Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist said Friday that subpoenas issued by Sen. Mike Enzi compelling Terri Schiavo to appear at a March 28 congressional hearing made it a crime to disconnect her feeding tube - and threatened anyone who interfered with her testimony with jail.

In a statement issued by the majority leader's office, Frist said:

"Federal criminal law protects witnesses called before official Congressional committee proceedings from anyone who may obstruct or impede a witness’ attendance or testimony."

"More specifically," said the Senate's top Republican, "the law protects a witness from anyone who - by threats, force, or by any threatening letter or communication - influences, obstructs, or impedes an inquiry or investigation by Congress.

"Anyone who violates this law is subject to criminal fines and imprisonment," Frist said.

Sorry ~ they are getting ready to overturn the continued use of the law of vendetta and honor killing in America.

Judge Greer may well feel he has all the power of a Mullah in 11th Century Sicily, but he doesn't, and people are NOT PROPERTY.

What if Michael Schiavo is telling the truth?

What if this women (and many others) are telling the truth?:

Heidi Law, a CNA at the Palm Gardens nursing home, testified: "At least three times during any shift where I took care of Terri, I made sure to give Terri a wet washcloth filled with ice chips, to keep her mouth moistened. I personally saw her swallow the ice water and never saw her gag. "[Another CNA] and I frequently put orange juice or apple juice in her washcloth to give her something nice to taste, which made her happy. On three or four occasions I personally fed Terri small mouthfuls of Jello, which she was able to swallow and enjoyed immensely."

We err on the side of life. DUH!

But in the absence of such, I believe judges should apply strict scrutiny to the claims of her husband.

What makes you think that they haven't? If there was any evidence to contradict what Schiavo has been saying then wouldn't you think it would have been produced by now?

Very scary how starvation will become the number on way to off people in the future.

Don't try it with animals though! PETA and the Law will come and get you.

EXACTLY! What you said...

"Go away you DU troll.

Life is sacred, and must be protected.

BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.

You're NO conservative."

I see some volunteers here who want to hold Michael Schiavo's crying towel. JUST WAIT TILL THE INVESTIGATION BEGINS and the MEDICAL AFFIDAVITS are read.

TERRI IS AWAKE AND AWARE. SHE WAS STRANGLED THE NIGHT SHE COLLAPSED.

All Michael Schiavo has shown is that he wouldn't want a wife in her condition. He's got a shinny new one now, waiting in the wings for her church cerimony.

Dear O:

Normally I would agree with you that gov't interference in personal matters is not wanted by most Americans.

But, in this extra-ordinary case, where judicial radicalism is so blatently in error, the President and Congress must step in to right a wrong.

best, p6

Who on earth does Bill Frist think he is? A Florida judge ruled that their subpoena did not apply.

----------------------------------------------------

Who on earth does Judge Greer think he is? God?

Judge Greer can issue a court order that says I can't eat hamburgers anymore.

Just because he issued an order does not mean he had a right or even the power to do it.

Judge Greer has no "right" nor does he have the power to issue any court order starving an American citizen to death and depriving them of the right to live.

And yet he did...

This is called "Judicial Tyranny".

The judge needs removed from office and jailed.

Returning to a Culture of Life

Why not let everybody in Intensive Care just die? Fire the doctors and save $billions in health care costs.

I see you read Hillary Clinton's health plan for America.

Knew a guy once who'd played for the Dallas Cowboys until he got drafted by the Army. You could look at him, say anything you wanted, and he wouldn't flinch a bit.

Something about having paralyzed facial muscles.

Now you go slipping up behind him to pull his feeding tube and I'm sure he'd pulled your a$$ out through your belly button.

Can you please explain to me what is responsible for your anger? The venom in your post suggests to me that you have a deep emotional stake in starving this woman to death. What, prey tell, is driving your obvious discomfort over the prospect of life?

Don't be alarmed--the NY Times is reporting that it's not painful (sarcasm).

I thought I've read on this forum by some posters that she would be given morphine as a means of quickening the process. If so then the pain should be eliminated.. but a horrible way to die regardless.

You ignored the question. Michael Schiavo has been saying all along that he knows for certain that his wife would not want to continue in that state. Not that she can't continue, but that she wouldn't want to. If he is correct then why are we ignoring her wishes?

the slippery slope is my concern. the rushing headlong into the death culture. Where there is nothing in writing, the presumption MUST be for life. i am fine with living wills etc. Both of my parents went through situations at the end. the bottom line here is that she is not terminal. she is not ILL< she is disabled. permitting the hearsay of another person, in this case, conflicted beyond belief, to determine whether someone lives or dies, is a grave error.
