I happened on this thread and have nothing to contribute except to say..How do we get the toothpaste back in the tube?..

The illegal immigration problem has been ignored for years really...I do not see it logistically possible to deport all illegals even if we had the resources to catch them all..

I do think the practice of not informing the feds when a state illegal gets out of prison and all the bleeding hearts' efforts to keep them from being deported after committing crimes is a crime.

Border patrol must be beefed up.
How does an employer make sure an employee is legal without a national ID card?..(and that is sure to be damned.)

The solution HAS to start with the Employers of Illegals. That is the magnet for many and that is the place that can't hide from concerted efforts at enforcement.

A National ID? Why not? I understand there would be efforts to counterfeit but at least there would be a universal standard for verification of exactly who a person is without all of the confusion current methods of individual ID have. At the minimum, it would represent a giant step forward in finally trying to get control of the Illegal situation.

The arguments against such an ID are IMO laughable and, frankly, not honest in their motivations. Honest, established and legal citizens already have an ID in the system and, if one wants to track their activities and locations it is a fairly simple matter. The same goes for confusion/chaos of the voting booth - Current systems of identification do not provide adequate protection of the right of only legal, valid voters to exercise their rights and have only their votes recorded in electoral processes.

No, the largest impact on so-called individual freedoms by introduction of a standard, effective ID mechanism would fall on those who are now undefined in our systems and Society - For the most part, the Illegal Community. I say go for it.
