The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
Identifying with one's race and ethnic heritage is not racism. A Racist believes that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that one race is superior to the others. I'm glad that you don't consider yourself one.
Life experience too has taught me many lessons, more than I have time to discuss. I have never been a Liberal so I can't share your experience there. I too have traveled to and lived in many places, some where Racism was truly evil. And I have seen in places like Selma, Montgomery, and others that America is not "above and beyond it all."
But after living 60 years, I still see the good in people as well as the bad. I still believe in our country. To me illegal immigration is a slap in the face to all the hard-working immigrants who came here legally, including my parents. If that makes me a "new woman" or "messianic" then so be it. But I am definitely not a humanist.
For now, you have your opinions and I have mine. Let's leave it at that. It's late and I have to work tomorrow.
LOL not those unsavory websites you bad boy you!
anyone know what happened to FITZ?
and Cincinnati as well but in reverse form in my view.
banned/suspended for what???
dunno. I saw on LP that FITZ was gone. Checked the posting history, and it just stops about 1000 posts back on this thread. Nothing particularly flame-like going on at the time...
Ooops, supposed to read 735 guests.
That's a shock. Fitz isn't as strident as others. pretty odd.
I have to agree. Even after the recent festivities, I'm surprised they booted FITZ.
Maybe he's in timeout and not banned.
: ) Wardaddy, Sir...I only know this: The sites I've seen, and the guys I've known who were into "White Nationalism" were bigots through and through. White Trash bigots who were too stupid to pull off the semantic/renaming joke everyone could see through.
As I said, I'm a WASP, DAR, and I love my South and our culture. I refuse to be ashamed of it or watch America's traditional culture be changed. (I enjoy other cultures too, and think they enrich ours - just don't make us adapt.)
But it's like feminism. I'm also a woman who's glad she can drive and vote, etc. But no way would I associate myself with the Feminist Movement.
That's all I'm saying.
(I did a double take on the half support too, but figured it was figurative and overlooked it)
Ability is race neutral?
I disagree. I do of course believe character is race neutral. Certain cognitive skills may be race neutral but they are not culture neutral...that is painfully obvious. I am a southerner. I know I am not as math proficient as many Asians and cannot connect my mind to expression as well as the average Jew....although the latter is for sure a cultural edge to being Jewish.
well....I have little doubt and I believe it has been proven blacks tolerate heat better.
I would also imagine Inuits tolerate cold better.
Your average Caucazoid as well.
I bet Tutsis can jump higher.
On average Caucazoids have larger cranuims and larger female pelvises for which they can pass through. I suppose that gives Caucazoid chicks a better "ability" birthing big headed babies.
I bet Ethiopians and Kenyans and Andeans run long distance better on average.
Black males have higher free testosterone levels than any other race....and I'm jealous...lol
They also have denser bone mass in Western and Central Africa and more elongated muscles.
I could go on and on. These are only physical differences often environmentally enhanced or created perhaps but not always but they are proven and undeniable and do translate to differences in abilities that depend on that.
I had this very conversation today with a social anthropology teacher I know.....on a jog-walk...we often discuss this topic since it is his area and he thinks all racial differences are environmental requisites. We were laughing about the myth of the black "appendage" being the biggest. He said no....the Northern American Plains Indian Male literally holds that distinction on average. That I did not know and I have no idea who in the hell studies such things...probably our tax dollars at work.
Anthropology is a strange thing...damn, they are I think the most lefty of all academics....my friend sure is.
I don't think we are all the same (racial or otherwise) with the same abilities and I think character is earned. I think some groups that could be defined by race or ethnicty or to be sure culture do better at some things than others. I think that is God's way. He created us equal in his eyes. That has nothing to do with performance.
The problem with race is superiority and turf issues. Enlightenment has busted superiority in the west at least but turf issues are not going away whther inter-racial or intra-racial....not in my lifetime anyhow.
"I went to the Minuteman Project website and didn't see anything unseemly there."
Same here. I just think it's Jim's decision and I can see why he'd worry about the Stormf'ers causing trouble and not wanting his site connected to it if things got ugly.
I have no problem with it on our web site, though. It isn't the target FR is.
I know I am not as math proficient as many Asians...
**Wow I've never attributed some lack of talent in my life to a racial difference. I do remember wanting to be Japanese because during the 80s teachers (esp white ones) been infatuated with asian school superiority.
PS: Do folks really believe there is a racist behind very rock or do they just feel good pointing it out real or imagined.
PSII: I have not even addressed the litany of other facets to the la Migra debate...some of which are downright dangerous right now.
I read that Asians are better at math because of their language.
*shrug*
it could be culture instead...although someone will come along in a minute and tell me that the use of the word culture is racist too.
fact is some Asians do better in math...it would beb interesting to do contrast brain resonance style testing and compare but doing that would be considered racist.
you know the only person of note to get a grant to do testing of race based cog abilities in recent years?
Thomas Sowell....
My sister knows Japanese and spent considerable time there. She's excellent in math. Maybe it's exercising the brain.
I wonder what happened with his research. As for culture, well I always say don't hate imitate.
